I would find out who his superior is and write them an email. First I would
explain how the American with Disabilities Act protects us ALL including when
attempting to do volunteer work. Second I would enlighten them as to your
PTSD being caused by a train accident therefore you just don't ride trains and
third, I would give them the option of rescheduling at mutually convenient time.
We have PTSD but we're not dead nor insane just sensitive to certain
triggers. I have been volunteering at my daughter and son's elementary school
and
find it rewarding. I acquired my PTSD from Ground Zero as a Rescue Worker. On
April 17-19 I will be other 9/11 Survivors and their families in my new town
OKLAHOMA CITY together with family and survivors of the Oklahoma City Bombing
for the 9th Anniversary. They have an institute called MIPT (Memorial Institute
for the Prevention of Terrorism) to assist in educating the public and
assisting people who have suffered and act of terrorism.
Stand tall! Look them straight in the eye! I'll be right next to you! I had
to face a similar battle when I worked at Deaconess Hospital. You would think
that a hospital would know better but they didn't.
