Hi everybody. This is from my niece Christine who is participating
in a breast cancer walk in honor of her mother who she lost in May.
Debby was my husband's twin sister. I would greatly appreciate any
donation that you could give to help her out, no matter how small
because every cent counts. Thank so much.
Love,
Terry

Subject: I need your help
Date: Mon, 22 Mar 2004 12:19:54 -0600
In 2003 the American Cancer Society (ACS) reports that approximately
211,300 women in the U.S. were diagnosed with breast cancer and
about 39,800 deaths were attributed to the disease. My mom was one
of those 39,800.
Most of you knew my mom as Debby. To some she was a sister, an aunt,
a daughter-in-law, a soul-mate, but to me, she was my mom and my
best friend. For those of you who knew her, I don't have to tell you
that she was indeed something else! To the very end she had her
spirit, her modesty, and her humor. For ten years she fought off and
on with breast cancer, and yet she fought not for herself, but for
myself, my twin brothers Eric and Jason, my sister Jessica, and my
father Jack. Not until she passed away did I find diaries that she
had written expressing her pain; not her physical pain, but her
emotional pain. On October 2nd through 3rd this year, I will
participate in the Avon Breast Cancer Walk (approximately 40 miles!)
in New York City in the hopes that none of the women I know, and
will know in the future, have to endure what she did.
Along with approximately 2,000 other walkers I will walk to support
the cause I believe in, the cause that has immensely affected my own
life, and the cause that will enable millions of individuals to have
a life without breast cancer. I am writing you because I know your
capacity for compassion and your potential to support me and my
cause. To participate in this walk I must raise a minimum of
$1800.00 and Avon has made donating very simple. I ask you to think
of the women in your life who have been, or one day could be,
affected by breast cancer and ask yourself what you can and will do
to help. My personal goal is to raise as much as I can for this
walk.
Please give whole heartedly, what you can, and please know that your
donation, no matter the size, is vastly appreciated; appreciated by
myself, my family, and those who will come to benefit from it in the
future. If you have any questions about my efforts or the efforts of
the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day, you can reach me at (203) 341-8976, by
email at chrismsladd@..., or you can check out the website
at www.avonwalk.com.
No one can ever replace the love you lose when your mother dies, but
I will always have my memories. I ask that you think of the memories
and love that you have for Debby, and others in your life who have
been touched by breast cancer, and make a donation in her memory to
the Avon Breast Cancer Walk. I will not take her death lying
down...I can, will, and am, doing something about it!
All My Love and Thanks,
Christine
