Victory in Delaware! Delaware's smokefree workplace legislation has been sent to the Governor for her signature. The Governor has repeatedly indicated her intention to sign it. The law will go into effect 180 days thereafter. The law will provide ALL Delaware workers (including restaurant, bar, and casino workers) with a safe, healthy, smokefree work environment.

The following message was sent to smokefree advocates from the prime sponsor of Delaware's smokefree workplace legislation, Senator David McBride…
I am very moved by the show of support nationwide for this progressive, much needed law in Delaware. SB 99, The Clean Indoor Air Act, is on Governor Minner's desk awaiting signature. Wouldn't it be special if Governor Minner were to sign SB 99 into law on World No Tobacco Day, May 31, 2002! I have made that request. Many legislators, persons and organizations are responsible for this very important legislation. I am humbled and feel very honored and privileged to have sponsored and successfully shepherded SB 99 through the Delaware legislature. Please visit and ask you family members and friends to visit "Smokefree Delaware." We are very friendly in Delaware and in addition to clean indoor air have lots to offer our guests. Again, thank you very, very much.
