CAN SPEAKER MILLER WALK AND CHEW GUM AT THE SAME TIME?
A recent letter sent to NYC Council Speaker Gifford Miller criticizes the Council for claiming it can't address Mayor Bloomberg's smokefree workplace legislation this year because full attention must now be given to the budget. In her letter, the smokefree advocate writes:
I am outraged at the stalling and whining from the City Council regarding their budget talks catapulting smokefree workplace legislation for this session. Can't they eat and chew gum at the same time? The smokefree workplace law is a health issue that should be easy to discuss and pass without much filibustering. Pass the legislation to protect workers and patrons. [And get on with the budget at the same time.]
