I had an interesting experience last night. I'm not sure how or why that
happened, but it did quite spontaneously and without trying or having
thought about it.

I was feeling quite chirpy and sat down in front of my computer which is
connected to a big sound system, put on a random playlist and "Old Man
River" by Frank Sinatra was what was happening.

Started to sing along to it, a little bit at first, then full throttle.
I got into what I can only describe as rapport as I was stretching to
match the energy Mr Sinatra was projecting.

There was a noticeable ET thing going on, something in my back and under
both ears which was preventing a feeling of real flow; I didn't actively
do anything but desire it to be gone so I could get better rapport
still. I felt it moving and then wham!

A strange breakthrough feeling, a rush of energy and with it, my voice
changed.

Old Man River isn't exactly in my preferred pitch but the thing was that
as I got the rapport, the pitch became perfect in turn; not just the
pitch, but also little very ideosyncratic things that Mr Sinatra used to
do, they came free of charge and I was just doing them, or should I say,
I found myself doing them to my great surprise.

As I said, I was surprised by that. Being surprised, it knocked me off
balance and I lost it for a moment; tried to regain it by "singing the
same" but that absolutely didn't do it. No chance to get to these deep,
deep down resonant notes with "thining about singing".

That's when I got it that rapport was what does it; that being in sync
and aligned with Mr Sinatra's energy is what produces the perfect match
in resonance in my voice.

I focussed on the energy again and immediately, the same result - my
voice responded by opening out and having found an extra 100% in
downward range and flexibility.

I found that so fascinating that I tried three more songs after that,
one of them the really high pitched "Eternal Flame" by the Bangles. I'm
not saying that I can hold the highest notes in that song cleanly
because I can't, sounds very "rusty" but the notes are there, the range
is there, and that's a lot more octaves than I ever could sing before I
thought I ever could.

It's a really interesting exercise for ETers.

And it's not about singing.

It's about matching the resonance and producing the same *energy* or at
least STRETCHING FOR that energy that does the trick.

It's a very neat and surprising experience.
