RE: [ET2] Storm Fun

Hi, just read Sllva's remarks about 'storms' as an energy source. >>

I actually learned about this thing a long time ago, when we were doing
dog training classes. Every so often, we'd have a night where all the
dogs were completely wired, hyperalert and the littlest thing would set
them off.

It was blanket through from the puppy-kindergarden right up to the
advanced competition dogs and eventually I noticed that this was
happening "when the wind was high". Literally. Not stormy but high
winds, fast high winds higher up.

Then I struck on the idea of using this state for different things than
we would normally do, and when we did that, we had special "high wind"
routines, and boy that was AMAZING. You could use that high wind state
to have dogs have breakthrough learning experiences there and then if
you handled it right. Like, a puppy who would normally be way too afraid
to run out after a toy would do it, break through what was holding it
back, under "high wind" conditions.

And once the behaviour had occurred the once and was rewarded, it became
a part of the dog's repertoire, a resource extension, really cool.

Be interesting to dust that off and use it with ET, see what kinds of
things WE can do quite easily "when the wind is high" (or when the
morning is crisp and cold, or when the day is glowing hot, or whatever),
find out if we can utilise these conditions to learn to do something we
thought we couldn't.

:-)
