ER Nurse Manager Description
Oversees daily activities of a unit/units by coordinating activities of
professional and support staff. Ensures that patients' needs are effectively
met. Makes rounds with physicians and discusses cases and related matters.
Administers special medications and therapeutic treatments as prescribed by
physicians. Maintains supply of instruments, medicines, and patient care
supplies. Assures that equipment is in good working order. Trains new employees
and students. Interprets hospital regulations and policies to assigned staff.
Assists physicians with examinations. Evaluates progress and determines needs of
patients; makes notes as to treatment and progress of patients. Supervises the
maintenance of patients' charts. Evaluates the efficiency and quality of the
staff in their various functions. Confers with families and patients.
Coordinates staff assignments and makes reassignments according to patient care
requirements. Ensures that physician assistance is provided and compliance with
physician directives followed. Ensures all services and programs are in
accordance with standards established by the JCAHO, hospital, state, federal,
and local regulatory agencies.
Education Requirements
Associate's degree in Nursing. BSN Preferred.
Minimum Experience, Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements
Eight (8) years of nursing experience, including at least three (3) years in a
hospital. Demonstrated leadership experience. Excellent organizational and time
management skills. Effective communication and interpersonal skills to establish
and maintain cooperative work relationships. Professional demeanor and ability
to multi-task. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
