Hi,
Just a followup note to let you know how we are doing in getting new folks for
the Feb medical trip to Honduras. I just got word from Gary, our Project
Director, that we have had some very good responses to our call for medical and
dental folks. I do not get the applications (Gary does) so as of yet I have not
seen the names of those who signed up.
Gary did say that we still are in need of translators plus several more
nurses, one or two more doctors, and at least one more surgeon. Our goal is to
have 2 qualified nurses for each of the 2 surgery teams. We also want one RN
and one LPN or EMT person plus a dentist for each of the 7 or so medical/dental
clinic teams we plan to send. Note that we do still need some other professions
and some support people as well so you can bring along a spouse or friend if you
want!
For those of you who have signed up… GREAT! I and others on the IHS Board are
certainly available to start passing on detailed info in prep for the mission.
Our web site, www.IHSOFMN.org is a good place to start (especially the
NewsBreak newsletters) Also, if you know of anyone else who may be a good fit
for such work, let them know we are still looking for team members to fill
vacancies on teams.
For those of you who are undecided, I certainly can answer any detailed
questions to help in your decision. I also have a listing of all the IHS Board
members who can also relate to you any detailed work information about such
things as what you will actually do in the daily work of the village or surgical
site.
If it does not work for you to go this time, please consider and plan for a
future mission. This is our 25th year at doing this and we plan to be around
for a long time.
Important Info: For those of you who may not have seen any past information
on our medical trip and do not know of our mission, here are the basics. From
Feb 16 until 4 March, 2007 International Health Services will send 10 or more
medical, dental, & eye glasses teams to Honduras. Our hope is to have about 8
medical clinic teams to include a dentist on each team. We also hope to have 2
or 3 surgery teams and 2 or 3 eye glasses teams. We try to send several support
people (translators, engineers, helpers) on each team to help us provide quality
care to all we see. Last year we saw about 600 to 800 people (average) FOR EACH
CLINIC TEAM. So, we do touch many lives and most are people who have NO medical
or dental care available to them except our once a year visit. NOTE that a huge
need right now is Spanish translators.
Let me know if there is anything else you need!
