What would you think about a manager/management team that did this:

A unit secretary was caught stealing money from the purses/bags of
her coworkers. She is a 35 year employee, and actually doesn't do
much. Over the last 5 years three of the housekeeping staff have
been fired "for stealing" money from the employee break room- only
on our unit, no other units. Sounds fishy now.

She was caught like this- After some detective work, she was
suspect. Marked money was placed in a coat pocket and a bag in the
report room. After this employee arrived (always an hour early for
her shift), the pockets and bags were checked. The money was gone!
Two of the nurses asked each other if they had change for a ten, and
the other said "no". They then asked the secretary if she had change-
she said "sure" and gave them the bills marked with the "real"
owner's name. One other employee watched her the next day
suspiciously hanging around in the report room, and grabbing
something out of a purse as she entered the bathroom.

Management was notified and they confronted her. Management asked
her for change and received a bill with the other employee's name on
it. She was NOT fired, but she did resign and collect her pension.
Here's the kicker-
Management threw her a "retirement party" and made sure to email
all of the employees about it. Additionally, notices were posted in
the unit inviting everyone to attend her party! She still comes to
the unit "to visit and sell Avon", and management has said that
since she was not fired, it's OK.

Needless to say, there are a lot of REALLY pissed off employees.
Someone decided to print up a "neighborhood crime watch" bulletin
and post it- got a few laughs and broke the tension a little, but
someone else copied it and put some in administration's office. Here
came the manager- furious. Everyone got sat down and basically
scolded for the crime watch notice. She said it was "offensive".
Just what did she think the retirement party was to us? It doesn't
matter that WE were offended, but she has the right to scold,
threaten and belittle everyone when SHE was offended?

I've already decided that I'm leaving in May when my sign on bonus
check arrives.

Why is it so damn hard to find work where the management is
supportive and cares about the employee? Is that asking too much?
