I AM an Emergency/Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
Because there is no national certification for
EMERGENCY as a specialty exam - I sat for the Acute
Care NP exam through ANCC. Other graduates of my
program (UT-Houston) now sit for the FNP exam.
It varies by STATE as well. Here in VA, I practice
and hold my specialty as an Acute Care NP, with the
"sub"-specialty of EMERGENCY.
However, to make things even more confusing, I have
the "alphabet soup" from ANCC certification to state:
"APRN, BC" (Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Board
of Certification)

I have not heard the term "Emergency Care
practitioner" among my NP or MD colleagues - would be
interested to know in what capacity you heard this
term?
