How many ER/A&E departments offer staff support groups and good supervision
on a regular basis is something I would like to know.
I also know that in some departments the liaison psych and senior nurse team
help facilitate/take part in a staff support group once a week/month that
all staff find useful. medics are involved too.
In addition debriefing after major incidents and bereavement
counselling/trauma counselling after a patient dies and it has been particularly
traumatic
for that staff member.

Colleen,
You need to be a bit more specific than "stress in the
ER" - i.e. post-code stress of RNs is an example.
Remember to keep your topic close to something that
YOU know & love as that will keep you interested
through literature search after literature search.
What population are you looking at? RNs? MDs?
Patients? Ancillary staff?
What type of stress? (Physical reactions,
psychological?)
Is this going to be qualitative or quantitative? THAT
has a lot do with your research.
Best of luck - a thesis is a labor of love and you
will have moments of despair and moments of
triumph....
