FW: Bring Genetic Fairness Home: Make August the Month of Action   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #351 of 643 |
Dear Friends:

In March, Congresswoman Judy Biggert (R-Ill.) introduced a bill that
would protect you and your family from genetic discrimination in
health insurance and employment. However, despite President Bush's
full support and unanimous approval in the Senate, the Genetic
Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2005 (H.R.1227) still awaits
action in the House of Representatives. *We need your help.*

*Ask Congress to act on H.R.1227.*
This month, visit your representative at his district office, and ask
him to join 127 of his colleagues by signing on to this critical
legislation. Congressmen spend August at home because they want to
hear from _you_. Your personal visit to a home office means that you
don't have to worry about losing your health insurance or your job
because of a genetic test result.

*Visit your representative this August.*

(If you don't know your representative, send an email with your
address to policy@....)

After making an appointment, print out the Talking Points and view
the Frequently Asked Questions here:

To maintain bipartisan support, we currently only need Republican
members to sign on to the bill. If your representative is already
sponsoring H.R.1227, send him a thank you letter or write a letter to
the editor of your local newspaper.

Let us know how hard you're working! Please send an email detailing
your actions to policy@... .

*August is the time when your representative is at home waiting to
hear from you. To ensure that you and your family members are safe
from genetic discrimination, you must act today!*

Sincerely,
Sharon Terry
