Several months ago, I switched doctors because the one I had been seeing was not
working out. As it turns out, she was cutting her hours and has since retired
due to illness, so it was a good time to make the change.
This month, my new doctor gave me a referral to an ob/gyn, who also happens to
be his wife. I had an appointment with the ob/gyn on Friday and she is
fantastic!! I had to drive a LONG way to see her, but it was well worth it, and
I was all set to stay with her for a long time.
But then she told me a little secret that she and her husband had not even
shared with their staff. Due to the rising cost of medical malpractice
insurance in Washington state, she and her husband are considering moving to
another state when their current policy expires on October 1. They haven't made
a final decision and they really don't want to leave, but they can't afford the
costs of running their own practices with the high cost of insurance. This is a
very common problem in Washington and we're losing doctors every day. I just
hope I don't lose this one as it has taken me years to find another good one!
