Re: Scalp eczema and hair loss
> Nisa x -
Sometimes, what is dx as eczema isn't eczema but allergies.
Since you have a full body breakout, I would investigate laundry
detergents.
I use Dreft. Maybe dust mites? what i have to do, is bleach my pillow
in HOT water, then wash the bleach out in a second rinse cycle.
Many eczema sufferers are allergic to dustmites and can't tolerate
their skin being next to bleach. bleach and hot water kills the dustmites.
Another thing, investigate foods for allergies - Do an elimination
diet. I had eczema really bad and found out soy and corn were doing it
to me!
Another thing, since you probably have been pumped full of steroids in
the hospital, get some vitamins and minerals in you. A zinc deficiency
has been known to cause hair loss.
Another thing to investigate - is it really eczema or maybe its staph?
I had a staph on top of my eczema and the doctors never found it for 4
years. It didn't look like staph. to complicate things, only ONE
antibiotic worked. so again time went by before a doctor randomly put
me on the right one that worked.
But, i will tell you, a bacteria infection itches like A madness!
Eczema is mostly a bother comparatively.
I think most of this group with agree with me that you have to be your
own advocate as dermatologists aren't into finding out what's wrong,
just giving you a bunch of drugs that treat the symptom for a bit.
You want to keep your body as lubed up as possible. Others here can
recommend various creams. Have you put mayonnaise in your hair? that
might help.
And this is going to sound unorthodox - but when my scalp was driving
me batty with itching - I put hair dye on it. and the itch went away
as did most of the flaking. I think it killed some microscopic crap I
had or something.
I wouldn't recommend it if you have open sores though!
Anyway, that was all that helped me..not the special shampoos.
best bet for you is to be an INVESTIGATOR~~ keep a log book/diary.
Hope this helps.
