Quinine as a trigger   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #7104 of 7450 |
Hi, Sue:
You asked how I discovered that quinine was a trigger for my eczema ... I like a
glass of wine with dinner, and sometimes gin/tonics in the summer. I noticed
almost an instant itch with each "adult beverage" and assumed it was the wine,
and the gin that are triggers for me.

Last year, I went to China and took malaria pills ... had a major flare-up, and
itched my way along the Great Wall. When I got home I started trying to figure
out what had caused the flare, and eventually thought about the quinine in
malaria pills, and the quinine in tonic water. Did a bit of online research and
came across several references that supported my theory. (Of course, you can
find validation for most anything, but I've decided to avoid quinine!)

Chris
