The combination of anosmia
(with polyps) and asthma suggests that Samters Triad is a possibility. Have
your docs mentioned that?

I am new and SMELL...................
Hi, I have suffered from anosmia for over 9 years now -
occasionally alleviated with prescriptions of Prednisolone, typically 30mg for
10 days, but the last two didn't help at all. I had nasal polyps
associated with the loss of taste and smell and late onset asthma
diagnosed in 2001. Two sinus operations have not helped much.
For myself, I think it must be easier to cope with no taste or smell than with
distortions. I can appreciate sweet and sour and I try and get some
pleasure from the appearance of food and the memories of how I used to enjoy
them - especially chocolate. Actually, I found the depression when
the steroid effect wore off harder to bear than the affliction. My
asthma has been particularly bad over the last few months and I am beginning to
find my everyday activities restricted by breathlessness. I have
just started seeing a respiratory specialist and hope things will start to
improve but no sign yet. Love to you all, Felicity PS I
read all the postings with interest even if I don't contribute often

Sounds like smell distortion to me - which onset can be due to varied situations. One of which is sinus infection. I stumbled upon this Yahoo group, which has been very helpful for me. Mick's page is also great page for information:

I hope this is helpful.

It has been 2 1/2 years for me. Head trauma not illness but those smells sound about right. I do not remember when they finally stopped. They will stop soon. It is horrible when you are going through it though.
Good luck.
