Chopping onions   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #4068 of 4128 |
For the first time in over 2 years I had the great experience of  feeling my eyes sting and well with tears while chopping onions this morning. Unfortunately they don't smell like onions but I have noticed that smells are slowly starting to return. It's like I can barely detect them even while having my nose as close as possible but the important thing is that they smell right.  For instance I can smell basil, cilantro, and roses when I bury my nose in them.  Slow progress to be sure (after 2 years) but I am encouraged that I might get lucky one day and really be able to smell everything good and bad again!  Had to write and share with others that I know can relate to how overjoying this tiny step is to me.  Hope everyone on this list in time gets to experience things smelling "right" again even if it takes years.

Mel

Hi The reason you detect onions (and burning, ammonia, alcohol possibly, etc) is that these are detected by your trigiminal nerve, not your olfactory system. ...
