Re: [dysosmia] clonazepam

Hi Karla.  After I initially lost my taste and smell (April of 07) I started getting the bad smells - about 3-6 months after initial loss.  I had never tried acupuncture, so I gave it a shot.  I haven't had erroneous bad smells since.  Stuff doesn't smell right, but the bad ones are gone.  Still no taste, but to me, smelling nothing is better than the bad ones.  Holly in San Diego

Hello Group it's been awhile since I have last posted. I wanted to
see if any one here has heard of clonazepam. it is supposed to be
like a sedative type of drug, for people with seizures, epilepsy, and
anxiety. my neurologist prescibed this for me several months ago. i
have not taken it yet because i have read the side effects and its
scary. I was just wondering if any of you have taken it and if it
helped with the smell and taste distortions. My neurologist says that
it would help with the distortions but I have my doubts. My smell and
taste is so bad that its almost hard to get thru each day. soda like
coke and pepsi smells and tastes like pinesol or some other kind of
cleaner. mr pibb, rootbear, garage smell, cherry and many other
things , have a smell of leather like I picked it up and started to
chew on a shoe or something. I constantly have a bad smell that only
I can smell and that never stops. its horrible and I have had this
now for over a year. A cold is what started it and at first I had
confidence that things would get better but i see now that my chances
are slimmer than I thought. Anyways, if anyone here has taken this
drug and has had improvements or has heard anything bad about it ,
please let me know. If it will help me I will start taking it right
away, as I am at my wits end here and dont know what else to do.
Thanks and Hugs to all
Karla

Hi Karla, Do a search on the email archives of the group for clonazepam. I'm pretty sure at least one person in the group has been prescribed this. These types...

More people in the parosmia group seem to be helped by Lyrica or Neurontin than Klonopin (clonazapam). I have been on clonazepam for years for another...

Karla, reading your post again, it's not clear if you have phantosmia or parosmia. If you are truly experiencing a taste distortion rather than a "flavor"...
