Hello fellow anosmics:
I know that we all have vastly larger problems to deal with right now, and
I do know the difference between fiction and non fiction, but I have to
say that I was somewhat bothered by what happened in _Beverly Hills
Chihuahua_ regarding one of the major (dog) characters and his sense of
smell, and I wondered if any other anosmics had seen the movie and had
been bothered by what happened as well, to the point of thinking that it
should be protested.
For those who haven't seen it, I will push the details below to, I hope,
avoid spoiling your enjoyment of the movie if you do decide to see it. Not
that it isn't predictable, but still...

OK, what bothered me was that the Delgado character recovered his lost
sense of smell by just wishing hard enough. For congenital anosmics and
many of those with acquired anosmia, this can never happen, and I don't
think it was realistic, even in the fantasy construct of the movie, or
helpful to present this as something that was even a remote possibility,
for humans (let alone dogs)..
My question is, is this important enough to protest to Disney? They were
so careful to make an effort to not have people buy Chihuahuas from puppy
mills; I would think that they might also want to help us spread the word
that there are lots of humans without a sense of smell who can never get
it back by just wishing that it were so, and to help educate people who
might not even know the word anosmia. What do you think?
Thanks - and it really is a fun movie, even with this little problem
