Hi,
It has been 3 months since I had a very bad cold and lost my sense of
taste and smell. I knew right away that something felt different.
It wasn't the usual feeling that you have with a typical viral
cold... the loss of taste and smell with the usual stuffy nose.
Now, in the last couple of weeks I have the awful distorted smell
that is indescribable.
I read the other stories and hear that it has taken some people years
to recover these senses. How do you do that??
It has been only three months and I miss the smells.....the ocean,
the flowers, dinner cooking and especially my brand new grandchildren.
I can't cook, I don't want to go out or be with friends or family
especially when it revolves around eating and drinking. I feel like
I am in a bubble watching the world around me. And the worst part
is that nobody else can understand what it feels like.
I do have a couple of questions: 1. Does anyone also have headaches
or sinus pressure? I had a CT scan and MRI which were negative but do
have pain and pressure in the sinus area and face. I am currently
taking Prednisone to relieve some of the inflammation if there is any.
2. Does anyone feel a difference in the breathing through their nose?
3. was speaking to someone at work who's husband lost his taste and
smell but has regained his taste but not smell. Is that possible?
I thought we are able to taste because of our sense of smell.
I am waiting to hear from my ENT. She went to a conference yesterday
with others in the field and was going to bring up my case. She
also thought I should see a neurologist and at last resort, the
clinic in Philadelphia.
Does anyone have any thoughts on what my next step should be?
Should I go to a clinic right away or is 3 months too soon and wait
longer?
I never posted on a message board and feel very strange about it. I
am asking strangers for help and right now I can't give anything in
return.
Thanks for listening,
Lin
