Okay, in the UK you have two choices. Is your child at a state or
private school AND are you looking to send him privately or have
a private tutor?
STATE/LEA SCHOOLS: state schools do not recognise private
educational psychologist reports and you must apply through the
school for your child to be assessed. They will put him through
the SEN (special educationsl needs) code of practice; at level 4
he will be assesed and diagnosied as having SpLD (dyslexia is
not recognised by schools) 'specific learning dissabilities'. This
process can take upto 2yrs and your child may be 3yrs or more
behind in reading etc at this satge.
For your piece of mind - you can get a private assessment but
don't count on the school taking much notice of it. If you are
planning to use a private tutor then a private asssessment is
recommended.
PRIVATE SCHOOLS: get a private assessment and the school
will recognise it.
WHERE DO YOU GO FOR A PRIVATE ASSESSMENT: Phone up
the British Dyslexia association (BDA) and they will give you your
nearest center (BDA: Helpline: 0118 966 8271) or their website
(http://www.bda-dyslexia.org.uk/).
I hope this this helps. Good luck

UK. But is is important to get your son help as soon as
possible. I am severly dyslexic but was not diagnosed untill I
was 11. I was merely labeled "stupid" "unmotivated" "just plain
dumb" "messy and unproductive" And "lazy" by my teachers untill
I was in the fith grade, and my teacher recognized the markers
for dyslexia.

two honor classes in the fall.

dyslexia does NOT make him stupid. Rimind you son that
dyslexia is nothing to be ashamed about, in fact he is part of an
exclusive club.
