Hi all:
I am posting this message to solicit advise from the group. My
brother, William, has a learning disability I can't seen to classify
that might not be dyslexia. He is currently in college and is on the
verge of being kicked out. Some of problems is study techniques but
others are psychological. Here are some symptoms:
-he spends so much time on "mastering" a chapter that he would not be
able to get to the other chapters covered in the tests
-he has a strong psychological need to cover all the concepts in one
section before moving on to the next concepts even if time is of the
essence
-when studying a math problem, he has to know the proof of a formula
and an extensive background of it even if the test only required the
application of the formula
-he tends to overthink questions on tests to the point that he makes
it more complex than it has to be
I would like to get professional help for him this summer before he
returns to ODU. Do you know any learning specialist counselors that
specializes in these types of cases that reside in Norther Virginia?
What should I do? Who do I talk to? Thank you for your time and
insight.
