Hi for Karina and all.
My son is a gifted dyslexic who was "diagnosed" about Christmas.
I bought a highly structured repetitious reading programme (Toe by Toe) and we
finished it about a month ago.
We didn't do the repetitions unless ds thought he needed them against the strict
instructions in the book. I think ds knows what he needs and I am happy to take
it at his pace. he has now told me that he doesn't need anymore help with his
reading but he does need help with basic math, rote learnind and that sort of
thing, so that is what I am going to do next.
I do not consult with the school, they are still trying to fit ds into their
pidgeon holes both with regards to dysexia and giftedness, I do what I think
suits him and me together.
I used this book because I am dyslexic myself and I couldn't have coped with
anything more "fun". I was the one who needed it to be that way.

Hi Karina and others,
As somebody that could not spell until I was over 40 I was shown a
method of taking a photograph of the word in my mind (no camera
required). This was a combination hypnosis/concentration method. This
reduced my spelling mistakes by 20 to 50 times.
Personally I think that repetition only leads to boredom and wasting
time.
If you do it wrong once how will doing it wrong 100 times help?
If your son is under 20 years old it may be wise to remember that not
everybody is good at every thing.
Regards
Don
