Kyla,
Go with your instincts and get a recommendation for a good
neuropsychologist. In the 5th grade, our son was tested via the school
district and was found to have LD's in language arts.
(Very nonspecific)
In the 6th grade he had a concussion. We asked the neurologist for a
referral for further testing for LD's. He referred us to a wonderful
neuropsychologist. The neuropsycholgist (and his small staff) did
about 16 - 20 hours of testing over three days. (I didn't know then to
ask what tests) We went back for a consultation about a week later and
found out our son is dyslexic, dysgraphic and dyspraxic. He made
several recommendations for our IEP.
Ask your son's pediatrician, ask your physician and friends for a
recommendation for a good neuropsychologist. I would go this route
instead of a psychologist.
