Hi,
Thanks Erin and Don for answering my plea for help. I'm not too worried about
my son's reading, but I do worry that he is slipping behind in school classes
because he can't seem to work at the same speed as the others. The assessment
puts this down to auditory processing.
However, we have another diffculty in that he also has complex congenital heart
disease. The assessor and the headmaster are of the opinion that because he has
had a lot done for him in the past, this has slowed his developing processes
down (for this I am reading "neurotic over anxious mother"). The school are
approaching the problem from the "kick up the bum" angle. Although I applaud
their decision to move him from the bottom (failing) group to the very top (all
stars) on the basis of the obviously unexpected underlying ability tests, but
without a little extra assistance, he won't keep up with this group. He was
already having difficulty in the failing group (that's why we did the tests!)
I agree, Don that further investigations are required, but I just wonder what in
direction those investigations should proceed. It's rather expensive to get the
test for dyslexia performed and I wanted to know from you guys (the experts)
whether he sounds as if he might be dyslexic. I know I'm clutching at straws,
but he is not doing well at school and I wnat to know how best to help him.
