Robert,

A commercially available blood test now exists to
determine dysferlin deficiency. I had one completed
about 2 years ago just to confirm my diagnosis of
LGMD-2b (Miyoshi Myopathy).

For those searching for hope and comfort in dealing
the challenges we face, I boast in my Lord Jesus. He
has provided me with a peace and joy that I never knew
even when I was physically healthy. In 15 years, I
have deteriorated physically from a healthy and strong
athlete to someone who depends on a powered wheelchair
and who does not walk at all. Yet, I can awake each
day and know that I am not facing my challenges on my
own power and that these challenges are only
temporary. Two verses that encourage me are these:

Psalm 147:10-11 - "He does not delight in the strength
of the horse; he does not take pleasure in the legs of
a man. The Lord favors those who fear Him, those who
wait for His lovingkindness."

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 - "And He has said to me, 'My
grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in
weakness.' Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast
about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may
dwell in me. Therefore, I am well content with
weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with
persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ's sake;
for when I am weak, then I am strong."
