It seems half of the people with duane's were teased and had a very hard time, and then there is the other half who said no one noticed. I'm sort of confused by that. Either people notice or they don't or does it vary with the severity of the duane's?? I so much do not want my dd teased in the least. That is what I worry about most.
In my own case, I am 48 years old. Many/most people do not notice my Duane's (friends who have known me years before I mention it and they finally notice have told me it's not that prominent). To me, it seems like it must be a big billboard to the world but apparently it's not. In school as a child for my early years I wore glasses to "strengthen" my Duane's eye (I was misdiagnosed and the glasses were for the "lazy eye" aspect of the Duane's). The glasses "hid" the Duane's a lot because the lens on the Duane's eye was so thick it made my eyes more the same "size". I was teased a little for the glasses but nothing severe -- it was just that at 4, 5, 6, etc. none of the other children were wearing glasses. By the time I was 12 or 13 and was told by my PO that I could take my glasses off and only use them when I read (which I didn't even do that once they came off), many of those same kids who had teased me for my glasses were wearing them themselves. (poetic justice?)
Anyway, all this to say is that it never was a really big deal. Some notice, some don't. The amount of teasing was never all that great and I survived it all quite well. Kids can be cruel and will find almost any reason to pick on each other. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger...
