Re: [duane's] eye strain?

Shari - ask your PO when you go to check for astigmatism.  My daughter was checked and her eyes were fine.  Then, after a year, we went back and suddenly, there they were.  My brother in law keeps her during the day while we work, and he noticed her "sitting on the TV", and holding books close to her face.  Sure enough, she has glasses now and she is doing better.  I know it's frustrating - try not to worry, though.  If she is in distress or pain, take her to the ER - just as you would normally do!  You can call the PO and tell them that you HAVE to get in NOW!!!  Surely, they can squeeze in a child!  Good luck!

Hello everyone,
I've been lurking on this board since my daughter was diagnosed
about a year ago and now I'm hoping you can help me. My insurance co
will only cover one PO practice in the Atlanta area and the only
appt I can get for my daughter is late next week. SO frustrating!

My daughter is 21 months old and has duanes type 1 in her left eye.
No tilt and she only turns when she needs to see something on her
left. PO says her eye hits midline and her vision is normal. We went
for a recheck in October after noticing her eye "crossing" in
pictures but the PO said her eye is still hitting midline. Anyway, A
couple of days ago I noticed her rubbing her left eye, and yesterday
it kept getting really watery--teary even. Then today, she was
watching a video and it got watery again and then she started
complaining and rubbing it like it was really bothering her. I know
its not an infection. It seems more like eye strain, but why?

Has anyone experienced this before? Could her eye be changing and
causing strain? Anything I can do for her? Since she can't really
talk much yet, its impossible to really know whats happening.

Thanks so much!
Shari and Hailey
