Madan,
My son went to Dr. Tychsen last July at St. Louis Children's
Hospital. He is 19 months old and has type 1, left eye with a
minimal head turn. We went to see Dr. Tychsen for a second opinion
and to determine whether or not surgery was needed. The doctor that
originally diagnosed our son said that nothing needed to be done and
that surgery was not needed at this time, very laid back about
Duanes. At the time, we had never heard of Duanes, therefore, I did
not know where to begin with questions. Dr. Tychsen gave the same
diagnosis, however, he was ready to do surgery ASAP. He is familiar
with VRT and said he performed it often, was very sure of himself.
He is very straight to the point, not at all people friendly. I was
really hoping that he would be more helpful with how this would
effect Dawson's life and so on and so forth. His beeper went off
twice during the 10 min visit with him (his nurses did the eye exam,
etc.), in my opinion, he treated my son more like a number than a
human being. We had lots of questions, drove 3 1/2 hours, and had
anticipated a more fulfilling visit. I was very disappointed. My
husband felt that it was worth it, since we did hear the same
diagnosis. I am just glad to have found this group. It has been
very helpful...I have learned so much from everyone, THANK YOU!! My
husband and I have decided that surgery is not something we want to
put our son through at this time. His Duane's is not effecting his
life at all. If we feel that surgery is necessary in the future, we
will discuss it with Dr. Rosenbaum, whom I have heard so many great
things about.
Hope this helps, if you have more questions I'd be more than happy
to help you.
Krista
