Thanks Lisa - I'm thinking that your situation, and that of one other man who had complications, is part of what triggered the offering of complication fund - at least it seems like similar timing :)
I'm definitely paying the extra $500 for the complication fund. Even with such an extremely low complication rate, it is worth the added security!

I had my Sleeve done March 2008. In that time, Ive lost 111 lbs. I wont tell you that its been real easy....but considering what I went thru b4 surgery, trying to lose weight....its been a Godsend. Its one of the best decisions of my life. I had only one surgical complication - enlarged liver which got lacerated. Dr. Joya repaired it and continued on with my Sleeve. I did lose alot of blood and need transfusions, but Ive needed those after every surgery that Ive ever had (chronic anemia). The complication didnt result in any extra pain or hospital time. I did have some extra incisions/stitches. The reason I had the enlarged liver was pretty easy and completely my fault. I didnt follow my pre-op diet to the letter. So, I urge you to be sure and follow it completely! I could have saved myself that complication, plus additional money had I followed the diet. Also, my advice - take the complication insurance that is offered now (at
least I believe its still offered). I wish it had been offered when I got mine. Good luck!
