Rabecca,
I had my surgery in March 08 and my top weight was 252lbs.  I now weigh 166lbs and am at a normal body weight and in great shape.  Losing weight has been pretty easy for me with the gastric sleeve.  I haven't had an heartburn, naseau, or other sorts of problems.  Although I can't eat spicy food like I used to because it does tend to upset my tummy.  The hard part for me has been emotionally.  I used food as a way to help raise my mood and comfort me when I wasn't feeling well.  I'm really trying hard not to do that anymore and turn to hot baths, long walks, and evening jogging now.  It helps to see a psychologist along the way if you are an emotional eater.  Losing all my excess weight didn't solve all my problems like I thought it would.....

Good luck on your journey.  Dr. Joya will take good care of you and it is SO worth it.  I have absolutely no regrets as far as the WLS goes.

Best Regards,
Stephanie

Hi there... My name is Rabecca and I had the DS in 2001. My husband

would also like to have WLS, but we can't afford to go back to Dr B

in Spain due to the weak US dollar. We are considering Mexico

instead, and he is very interested in the sleave.

Can you tell me a bit about Dr Joya?

Have you had the sleave?

Would you choose that surgery again and why?

How long do you need to stay near the hospital after surgery?

How is the followup care?

I am looking for any information you can give me, as we want to make

a well informed decision. You can email us privately if you wish at

rabeccawhalen @verizon.net (you will need to take out the space).

Thank you in advance!!!

~hugs~

Hello!  I had the Sleeve with Dr. Joya March 17, 2008. Yes, I would do it all over again. Its been a hard road for me at times, but I have lost 90 lbs and feel great most days. I have a long way to go from here. I had a really high BMI when I started. Most doctors wouldnt touch me until I lost alot of weight beforehand. Dr. Joya did!  He is a really good doctor, very nice, polite, and caring. I couldnt have asked for a better group taking care of me. I am a nurse and in the States, you sometimes dont get that great of care...too many patients, too much red tape, and too little time. But I got great care with Dr. Joya and have recommended him to others.
Good luck.

Lisa,

How long did you need to stay in Mexico? How was your recovery? Did you have
any complications?
