I had my surgery on 10/18/06 and my first fill on 11/20... I wanted to have some restriction before I faced Thanksgiving. I went to the Hurst location, and they were really nice. The only comment that was a little odd was when I asked if I needed to take my shoes off to weigh..she said it didn't matter because they didn't care about 2 - 3 lbs. I took my shoes off, and told her that I DID care about those 2 - 3 lbs.
I was pleasantly surprised at how non-traumatic the fill experience was. I didn't "hurt" at all. She did say that my stomach contracted as a reaction to the fill...and I had to sit awhile to see if water would go down... it did...all is well. I guess I would say that I have a little restriction...because some things have gotten stuck in a minor way...but only when I try to eat during chaos. If things are peaceful...all is well.
My weight loss has really slowed down...but I guess with the holiday that is to be expected. I am trying to keep up the exercise at least 4 days / week. Realistically... should I expect 2 lbs / week?
Yeah, I pretty much got the same question and reply that you did. So
I may call you and see if we had the same person. Thanks for the
support! =)

Good morning!
Well, I had my fourth fill yesterday and I left there feeling like I
was a loser. I do not know if the tech was having a bad day, but she
made me have a bad day as well. I had lost one pound since my last
fill, and when I told her that I had the same restriction as I had
since the beginning she started questioning me, and telling me what
I was doing wrong in a manner that made me feel bad. If I was able
to diet on my own, I would have been doing that instead of having
the surgery.
But on the up side, I feel a difference already. So I am hoping this
is THE spot ya know? I am really ready to get back on the losing
trend. I have a friend in my office that had her surgery last week
and we both live in Lewisville, so I am eagerly waiting her doctor
to release her for working out. I have a new work out buddy. How
cool is that?
Hope everyone gets through the bad weather okay!

Hey Johnna..welcome to the group. I'm looking forward to "band
day"...still awaiting my official approval letter. Hoping to have my
surgery by the middle of next month...that way I can take time off
from work during the holidays and recover.
Best of luck to you...I think this group will really come in handy for
all of us!

Hey Johnna!!!!! You are such a sweetie! All my hugs and diet kisses go straight to you! I haven't called Dr. Fox yet to set my appointment for December. I may wait until January to do it. I don't have any weekdays off in December and don't want to burn a sick day for it. Know what I mean??? Anywho! Glad you are doing so well. I have gotten back on my stationary bike this week. I can tell I have been lacked in my exercising....my muscles hurt! (that's what I get for slacking off) I am so very proud of you Johnna! You are doing a great job. Stay strong and sweet and like you say, HUGS AND DIET KISSES!!!

I would recommend taking smaller bites of food and putting your fork down in between bites. And CHEW CHEW CHEW!!!! I think that is the hardest part of learning new habits.
Not counting the day of surgery, cause I had no discomfort that day, getting past the 2 and 3 days were the hardest. But you can do it. We are all here to help you in anyway possible.
Thanks Debra! I am surely looking forward. My friend won't mind...at
least I don't think. When he had his done, he was actually up and
around after about a day or so and was back home within a couple of
days...so I'm looking forward to the same type of recovery time frame.
Does anyone have any advice on eating habits that I could start
practicing on before going for my pre-surgery consult with Dr. F.? I'm
open to suggestions??

Thanks for those words of encouragement. They will definitely come in handy as I go through this journey of a 'new me'. I actually live in the Fort Worth area, but after going to the seminar at the Surgery Center of Richardson, I definitely wanted Dr. Fox to do the surgery. My biggest headache has been getting the approval. So far, I can speak very highly of his staff. They seem to care a great deal for their patients and so far have been very helpful in answering questions and providing information.
This web group will definitely be an asset to me. Luckily, however, I have a good friend of mine who was banded in September '06 and I was there to pick him up and he stayed with me for the first few days post-op...so now he'll be returning the favor...which is great.
So I hope you all enjoy the 'male point of view' from time to time... :)

Hi everyone. I am new to this group and actually came across this today as I was looking at Dr. Fox's website. The past 8 months have been painstaking, at best, as I have awaited approval from my insurance company for the lapband surgery. Happily, I found out day before yesterday that I've been APPROVED! Okay guys I know some of my Tyler patients get on here from time to
time and I just wanted to let you guys know that we are having a
support group meeting in Tyler this weekend November 11, 2006 at
12:00pm at the Holiday Inn Select. Please join us if you can.
Also I am in the process of setting up a Support Group Meeting for our
Dallas Patients I know I need it for myself and I know you guys would
like one. I would love any comments or suggestions that you might
have. Please either post them here or call me at the office (972) 566-
4560. Maybe help with a location or something. I welcome anything at
this point. We just need to get it going!!! I will be out of pocket
tomorrow afternoon and back online some time Saturday evening. So
bear with me I will check back. Take care and Have a Great Weekend.
Sincerely,
April Durrett
Thanks, for the support. My first fill is 11/03. I eat mashed potatos, and pudding, and Dr. Atkins Advantage shakes. I know that it is in my head but i am so tired of the potatos and shakes and just am craving meat. I keep thinking of the long time goal and trying to picture myself. And it keeps me on track. I just need someone to understand that the drinking is hard to do. Because i was so used to food. My husband tries to understand. I feel good though. I am eager to get my first fill to start my weight loss goal. Where are you from? I am from Oklahoma. I am still just a little sore around the biggest cut. Have you had a tough time going and getting your mind readjusted to food.
Thanks for returning my email.
It is good to discuss things with someone who has had the precedure done.

I am also new... banded on 10/18. I have my first appt with Dr. Fox this coming Thursday. I feel like I have done really well. Very little discomfort after the first two days. I was not hungry...and had to remind myself to eat until day 10 or 11. Now, I have no trouble remembering to eat (or should I say drink) something. I keep lots of SF Jelly, and SF pudding around, along with the Slim Fast Drinks for the protein. As long as I keep the ultimate goal in mind, it seems very tolerable.
Good luck with getting through this first phase. I understand that we are going through the toughest time right now.

All the things you are feeling are so normal! The band WILL work as long as you want and make it work. This is a slow process of learning how to eat and the main thing is to make sure you obtain your protein everyday, no matter what! Make sure you are getting your liquids in as well. I started out at 304 and had surgery with Dr. Fox on May 15, 2006 I am now at 250 and it has been wonderful. Remember everyone is different and will have different experiences.
My fills are done there on Coit Road at the fill center for the Surgery Center of Richardson. They are all wonderful there. I was just there on Monday! It is painless as well. You will be taken back by a nurse, weighed, temp bp all that good stuff, then you will talk to a nurtionlist and after all that you will be in the fill room. You will lay on this table and someone will place a drape over your port area while another places the xray machine over your port.
You will need to lay still once they have it all set. Then someone will deaden the port area and then inject the other needle to access the port and give you your first fill. Believe me, you will spend more time filling out paper work and waiting that it will take in the fill room. You will have one person on your right and 2 on your left. While they have the needle in for your fill the 2nd person on your left will ask you to turn your head and swallow the barium so that they can make sure everything is flowing through your band. And thats it!!!!!!!!! You are done!!!!!!!! You will have to go back to the lobby and sip water for about 20 minutes to make sure everything is going down right!!! Dont worry! Okay? I hope my play by play will help ease some of your worries.
As far as eating I would take chicken noodle soup and put it in the blender. It had a good flavor to it. As far as doing something wrong, believe me if you eat something that you
really shouldn't be eating the band will let you know. The food may hang in your pouch and cause a horrible pain, but you will know for sure! Don't stress over things you can control. And you can control the lapband!!!! Being scared is common...I worry about what if I eat too much! If you have done the research and you have a great support group, support from family and friends as well as a wonderful surgeon and staff anything is possible! Just hang in there and take one day at a time. Don't worry about what may or maynot happen tomorrow. Deal with the "hungry pains" today....most are just in your head and if you are getting your protein you shouldn't have true hungar pains.
I hope this helps! I feel like I am rambling on and on. Please feel free to email me anytime. I will be more than happy to help out!!!
Thanks so much for answering my email. My name is Tara. I am from Oklahoma. I am still scared just normal fears that what if it does not work. What if i am doing something wrong. What if i don't eat the right foods. I am eating mashed potatoes and jello and pudding. I am trying to change my thoughts in my head. I just get scared. I have a dr. appt. for Friday for my first fill. I just want it to work so bad.
Thanks,
Tara

Hello Everyone
I am new i just got my lap band about a week ago. I have healed
really good. i am on the two week diet. it is hard. does anyone have
any advise on how to stay strong or stories of what might have
happended to them their first two weeks.
Okay! I am back! For some reason I had to reactivate my account with Yahoo...weird!!! I know I have missed alot.
I leave in the morning for Richardson, Texas. I am scheduled for 10am for a small fill. I had .3cc taken out on Oct 13th and haven't been doing well at all. So, I am going to have some put back in. Wish me luck! Maybe after a little tweaking I will do fine!
Hello everyone!
Just checking in to see how eeryong was doing? I for one am having
better days now. The veiwing and funeral are over, so it is all
downhill from there. I had a shake today for breakfast instead of
bacon and eggs, so Iwill see how long I stay full from that. I am
trying to do better. My daughter is working at sonic and with her very
own tip money she brought me home ice cream night before last. I did
not have the heart to say no, so I had some of it, along with the
chicken strip basket he brought us to share while we were watching tv
in bed. I could not deny her that when she acted out of
sweetness...that does not happen very often...lol
Hope everyone is doing well!
