Thanks, for the support. My first fill is 11/03. I eat mashed potatos, and pudding, and Dr. Atkins Advantage shakes. I know that it is in my head but i am so tired of the potatos and shakes and just am craving meat. I keep thinking of the long time goal and trying to picture myself. And it keeps me on track. I just need someone to understand that the drinking is hard to do. Because i was so used to food. My husband tries to understand. I feel good though. I am eager to get my first fill to start my weight loss goal. Where are you from? I am from Oklahoma. I am still just a little sore around the biggest cut. Have you had a tough time going and getting your mind readjusted to food.
Thanks for returning my email.
It is good to discuss things with someone who has had the precedure done.

I keep lots of SF Jelly, and SF pudding around, along with the Slim Fast Drinks for the protein. As long as I keep the ultimate goal in mind, it seems very tolerable.
Good luck with getting through this first phase. I understand that we are going through the toughest time right now.

All the things you are feeling are so normal! The band WILL work as long as you want and make it work. This is a slow process of learning how to eat and the main thing is to make sure you obtain your protein everyday, no matter what! Make sure you are getting your liquids in as well. I started out at 304 and had surgery with Dr. Fox on May 15, 2006 I am now at 250 and it has been wonderful. Remember everyone is different and will have different experiences.
My fills are done there on Coit Road at the fill center for the Surgery Center of Richardson. They are all wonderful there. I was just there on Monday! It is painless as well. You will be taken back by a nurse, weighed, temp bp all that good stuff, then you will talk to a nurtionlist and after all that you will be in the fill room. You will lay on this table and someone will place a drape over your port area while another places the xray machine over your port.
You will need to lay still once they have it all set. Then someone will deaden the port area and then inject the other needle to access the port and give you your first fill. Believe me, you will spend more time filling out paper work and waiting that it will take in the fill room. You will have one person on your right and 2 on your left. While they have the needle in for your fill the 2nd person on your left will ask you to turn your head and swallow the barium so that they can make sure everything is flowing through your band. And thats it!!!!!!!!! You are done!!!!!!!! You will have to go back to the lobby and sip water for about 20 minutes to make sure everything is going down right!!! Dont worry! Okay? I hope my play by play will help ease some of your worries.
As far as eating I would take chicken noodle soup and put it in the blender. It had a good flavor to it. As far as doing something wrong, believe me if you eat something that you
really shouldn't be eating the band will let you know. The food may hang in your pouch and cause a horrible pain, but you will know for sure! Don't stress over things you can control. And you can control the lapband!!!! Being scared is common...I worry about what if I eat too much! If you have done the research and you have a great support group, support from family and friends as well as a wonderful surgeon and staff anything is possible! Just hang in there and take one day at a time. Don't worry about what may or maynot happen tomorrow. Deal with the "hungry pains" today....most are just in your head and if you are getting your protein you shouldn't have true hungar pains.
I hope this helps! I feel like I am rambling on and on. Please feel free to email me anytime. I will be more than happy to help out!!!
Thanks so much for answering my email. My name is Tara. I am from Oklahoma. I am still scared just normal fears that what if it does not work. What if i am doing something wrong. What if i don't eat the right foods. I am eating mashed potatoes and jello and pudding. I am trying to change my thoughts in my head. I just get scared. I have a dr. appt. for Friday for my first fill. I just want it to work so bad.
Thanks,
Tara

Hello Everyone
I am new i just got my lap band about a week ago. I have healed
really good. i am on the two week diet. it is hard. does anyone have
any advise on how to stay strong or stories of what might have
happended to them their first two weeks.
Okay! I am back! For some reason I had to reactivate my account with Yahoo...weird!!! I know I have missed alot.
I leave in the morning for Richardson, Texas. I am scheduled for 10am for a small fill. I had .3cc taken out on Oct 13th and haven't been doing well at all. So, I am going to have some put back in. Wish me luck! Maybe after a little tweaking I will do fine!
Hello everyone!
Just checking in to see how eeryong was doing? I for one am having
better days now. The veiwing and funeral are over, so it is all
downhill from there. I had a shake today for breakfast instead of
bacon and eggs, so Iwill see how long I stay full from that. I am
trying to do better. My daughter is working at sonic and with her very
own tip money she brought me home ice cream night before last. I did
not have the heart to say no, so I had some of it, along with the
chicken strip basket he brought us to share while we were watching tv
in bed. I could not deny her that when she acted out of
sweetness...that does not happen very often...lol
Hope everyone is doing well!

That was so sweet of Jimmy to send you flowers. He does SO rock! As far as I go, well...I return to the fill center on Monday and get "tweaked" on. I have just felt like I could eat anything I wanted to and that scares me. I did get on the scales and I am showing a gain of 3 lbs, but hey!! I will over come this hurdle!!!!!!! You should have called me girl! No matter who, what, where or when I will be there for ya! I will certainly keep the offer in mind if I ever have to stay over. Thanks so much for the offer. Hang in there girl! Dont be so hard on yourself over the couple of bad things that you ate. Its all going to be okay. Jimmy will be home soon and your life will be back to running stress free once again. (is that possible?? a stress free life???) Take care and keep me posted......call if you need to!
Debra,
Sorry to hear you are having such a hard time! I was kind of in a
funk yesterday and did not check my boards last night. I am working
through my issies. I ate a couple of bad things today. But as a
whole I have this beat, as far as ebing down in the dumps. Jimmy
knew I was having a tough time and even though he is out of state
for a funeral he sent me flowers today at work. He SO rocks.
I hope you are doing better! I have been thinking about you today.
Thank you so much for your sweet email. I had my phone in my hand to
call you once last night, but I was able to work through it/ But
thank you so much for the offer. That was so sweet.
If you ever need anything, just give me a call. You know I live up
here, so you always have a place to stay.

Hope everyone has had a great weekend! I need some guidance! Okay, last Friday I went to see Dr. Fox and since I was having PB everyday we had .3cc taken out of my band. It has been 10 days and I am finding myself staying hungry and eating too much! I am not eating junk food, it is my protein and veggies. I feel as if I have no restriction at all and I get on the scales in the morning and just know that I will have gained weight!!!! WHAT DO I DO?????? If I have gained weight, I will be calling Dr. Fox and seeing what we can do, but I guess from you guys I need words of encouragement! I feel like a PIG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gosh! This brings back too many bad memories of "just sitting and eating". I know in the morning I will probably not be this hard on myself, but it just knocks the wind out of you when you have done so well and all of
a sudden BOOM, you feel hungry and always want to eat!
Well, I have vented enough. Thanks to all for listening! I will let you all know how this turns out!
So sorry to hear about the nephew! Will keep you all in my prayers. If you need to talk you have my cell number. I don't care what time it is call me. Find other things to do and don't turn to food. I know that is my down fall to. Hang in there and keep us posted. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time.

Hi Debra!
Yeah, I had some no-no's as well. I am addicted to bacon and eggs
for breakfast. I am just afraid that I will eat oatmeal and not stay
full adn end up snacking. I need to talk to April to find out about
oatmeal. I wander if malt-o-meal will work too. I can not get my
oatmeal to turn out soft. It is always kind of chewy no matter what
I do. Blah... other than that it went great! I had lost 6 pounds
since I was in there. My scales show that I started at 235 and as of
this morning I was at 204. Whoo hoo----lol Glad to hear you were
able to adjust the fill. That should help you alot.

Thanks for the information! My husband looked yesterday at our local Wal-Mart and didn't find it, but we will continue to look.
I do feel better! I get to eat solids today so will see what happens. I didn't call really because I was scared, I didn't call because I just chalked it all up to the stress I was under. Since my visit on Friday I have noticed that I have that hungry feeling. I don't like that!!! I don't want any weight gain, but yet I don't want to PB everyday either. I guess I will just have to adjust.
Thanks for your help! And by the way, tell Dr. Fox the little circle he drew at my port, he was right on the money!!! In the center of the circle is where they placed the needle. He is so good!!!
Have a great weekend and a wonderful week! I will keep you
posted on my progress.

Okay the drink he is talking about is the Low Carb Option Slimfast.
It says it on the outside of the box that they come in. I think they
only have chocolate and vanilla. You can get them at pretty much any
where they sell Slimfast. But make sure it says Low Carb Option. I
hope this helps the Atkins and the EAS Advant Edge is good too.
Have a great weekend.

Jodi,
You must be so excited right now. After a year of being banded I've
found bread to be a thing of the past. Don't get me wrong though. I
get a craving for carbs every now and then. So, my bestfriend during
those time is the cracker:) This hits the spot and doesn't turn into a
paste. Congratulations on your upcoming surgery date. Keep us posted

journey.

Debra,
Sorry to see you going through so much, but I am really glad you
called Dr. Fox. I was going to post yesterday to see if you had
called him, but I had just spoke to upi the night before so I did
not want to seem pushy =) Glad you may be able to resolve this
soon. I have my appointment tomorrow afternoon. I am really looking
for another fill. I was scared after my first one, becauase the
second one hurt and I am a big baby. But I think I have gotten my
mind around it now.
You were really strong to be able to go through all the upheaval and
not turn to snacking and eating bad. I have had lapses, I am trying
to overcome them. It is just frustrating to not have restriction
yet. Then be afraid of it due to things like what you and my co-
worker are going through.
Good luck friday!!

My last fill was August 8, 2006 and I have lost quiet abit of
weight. But, with this weight loss I have suffered with really not
being able to eat properly. I have chalked it all up to the stress I
have been under. My husband had both knees replaced in July and has
been off work since June 2006. My friend in Houston lost his wife in
August so alot of time has been spent in Houston helping him to cope
with the grief. Plus I am a Police Dispatcher working 40 plus hours
a week and taking 2 classes this semester. So I ask, where is my
stress coming from?? I finally broke down yesterday and called Dr.
Foxs office and I am scheduled to see him Friday morning at his
office. It seems that I may have to take a little saline out. Which
I probably should have already done this, oh say like in AUGUST!! My
weight loss had stopped a couple of weeks ago and maybe, just maybe
that is why I called and spoke with April about
> my "issues". Maybe I could take all the discomfort I was going
through due to the fact that I was loosing the weight! I don't know!
Anyway! I will take my punishment from Dr. Fox and yes from April
(hehe) for this stupid stupid thing I have been going through since
August. I am preparing myself mentally for this appointment. I guess
I really can't say that I am upset with myself I should just know
better. I dragged myself out of bed this morning at 5am and thought,
well let me weigh this morning and just
see..........well.........the scales had moved! How much do you ask?
Well.....it went from 253 to 250 so why? Why just like overnight
these 3 pounds are gone??? I am not complaining, just wondering.
Okay! I will keep everyone posted on my progress and my visit with
Dr. Fox. And to anyone out there that are having any kinds of
problems, please please please call your doctor! I think I just feel
better knowing that Dr. Fox is going to take care of this problem

Hi Jodi!
Welcome!! As far as the bread, I feel your pain. I am a bread addict.
I do not have proper restriction yet so I can wean myself by having a
peice of toast, or crackers. But on the times I can not stand it and
my family is eating and the waitress brings it to dinner (because it
is not allowed in the house) I will take a bite of the bread and chew
it, then spit it out. It is not the same but I found that it will
satisfy that craving for the moment, then once you leave the bread
there you are good to go.
When I give in to my Subway or Quizno's fetish I will be eating the
insides of the sandwhich. It takes some adjustment but it is well
worth it. I had to think, do I want bread/sweets or do I want to be
able to go places and not be embarrased. I would have had this done in
January but decided to give it one last shot on my own. Failed
miserably then called and had surgery 7/11/06. So I took the pics but
forgot to measure. Then the camera chip went bad and the pictures were
lost. =( So at the point I measured on 7/30/06 to 9/15/06 I had lost
no pounds but I had lost 10 inches. So as Debra mentioned, take
pictures and measurments for when you are feeling down or impatient
then you can look back and see where you came from.
Good luck on getting through the process quickly and we are looking
forward to hearing all abut it!

I wanted to take this time to respond to the last few emails. I have
given Elizabeth full moderator privileges so that she can help me
monitor this board. I fully support her in her response about giving
the medical advice. I also agree that we are all here to give
support and to "bounce" stuff off of each other to see if anyone else
is going through what we might be going through as well. I also want
to say that if you have something that is of a great concern
medically to please just call the office and I will be glad to help
you as best as I can.
On another note however, I am so glad to see ya'll out here talking
and supporting each other. Please help us in getting the word out, I
want this to be a great place for our patients and future patients to
have the support they and I need.
I hope this hasn't been too long. Also does anyone have any good
time management tips for me...as I seem to be sinking in all of my
daily tasks.
Have a great day!
April
Thanks for sharing your story! And let me just say that you are in excellent hands with Dr. Fox!!! I was banded on 05/15/06 and I am doing well. The surgery will be a breeze, think of it as the portway to a new journey and enjoy the sleep!! I have no regrets for getting the lapband. Lapband is a learning tool, it can work with you or against you..just depends on how you treat it. Bread, well some people can still eat it and some can't. I can only eat a couple of bites of bread if it is toasted really well and I figure why bother. My biggest concern was not having Dr. Peppers! I have not had any carbonated drinks since May 1st and I don't miss it at all. Even being around people that drink them and eat things that I can't eat, well I just dont care!! Why? Because I am seeing the results of my journey in the mirror, on the scales and at the tape measure. You will do fine...its all a learning process!!! Remember to take a picture front view and side view
as well as take measurements. You will notice a difference really really soon. Good luck in your journey and let us know how you are doing after the surgery. And know that on 10/18/06 you will be WALKING ON THE BANDED SIDE OF LIFE!!! Its a great feeling.
I am excited that Dr. Fox has a web posting site now. I have monitored
another site in preparation for making a decision for surgery. I am
scheduled for 10/18, and am looking foward to it...although I am a
little nervous about the actual surgery. Actually my biggest concern
is having to give up bread. Seems like the world revolves around
bread. I guess you just get accustomed to doing without it. I will
continue to monitor this site for hints along the way. My thanks to
you all for sharing your stories.

Okay!! Here's the latest on my goings on in Gladewater, Texas!!!!! My last fill was August 8, 2006 and I have lost quiet abit of weight. But, with this weight loss I have suffered with really not being able to eat properly. I have chalked it all up to the stress I have been under. My husband had both knees replaced in July and has been off work since June 2006. My friend in Houston lost his wife in August so alot of time has been spent in Houston helping him to cope with the grief. Plus I am a Police Dispatcher working 40 plus hours a week and taking 2 classes this semester. So I ask, where is my stress coming from?? I finally broke down yesterday and called Dr. Foxs office and I am scheduled to see him Friday morning at his office. It seems that I may have to take a little saline out. Which I probably should have already done this, oh say like in AUGUST!! My weight loss had stopped a couple of
weeks ago and maybe, just maybe that is why I called and spoke with April about my "issues". Maybe I could take all the discomfort I was going through due to the fact that I was loosing the weight! I don't know! Anyway! I will take my punishment from Dr. Fox and yes from April(hehe) for this stupid stupid thing I have been going through since August. I am preparing myself mentally for this appointment. I guess I really can't say that I am upset with myself I should just know better. I dragged myself out of bed this morning at 5am and thought, well let me weigh this morning and just see..........well.........the scales had moved! How much do you ask? Well.....it went from 253 to 250 so why? Why just like overnight these 3 pounds are gone??? I am not complaining, just wondering. Okay! I will keep everyone posted on my progress and my visit with Dr. Fox. And to anyone out there that are having any kinds of problems, please please please call your doctor! I think I just feel
better knowing that Dr. Fox is going to take care of this problem with me on Friday, I don't know!!
Okay! Sorry for the novel, but thanks for letting me vent this morning. I love reading everything you guys and gals post and can't wait to read responses from this!! Everyone have a great day!
