I had LapBand surgery 12-07, and had to have another Dr. reposition it 3-08 at
which time I had lost 23lbs. In 6-08 I had lost another 17lbs. Now for 11 months
I have not lost anything and am feeling like a failure. I still have trouble
with even scrambled eggs & cottage cheese going down sometimes so I really don't
think it's the band needing a fill. Has anyone else experienced such a long
plateau?

Ok, so it's cliché, but it's that time of year to start fresh and start thinking of how  2009 can be better than 2008. I just had my reband surgery, and I'll be back on all normal diet the start of next week, which just happens to coincide with the New Year. So, I'm ready to restart the diet, refocus, exercise, watch what I'm eating better, and get some more of this weight off!  We need to focus on the scale and NSV (non scale victories) also, such as dropping sizes, other noticing, dropping inches, and all those little things that pop up.
So who's in with me?
At the end of each week we will post our results, pounds and NSV's that popped up.

Keep the Spirit,
Kim

Ok, so I survived my surgery. Surgery was 2 1/2 hours, lots of scar tissue and a hernia had formed near my stomach/esophagus. So after scar tissue removal and hernia repair I'm back on clear liquids and protein drinks. Yea for cream soups today-- something different.

Kim

I'm getting rebanded Wednesday after a bad slip that would never quite
go back. I've lost roughly 50 lbs but have been at about 220 for over a
year now. Need to refocus on losing weight and being strict again. The
up and down battle of slips, liquids, mush, solids, back to liquids,
just really makes it hard to focuis.

On top of that had a lot of life craziness and the band just doesn't
stop emotional eating--at least my choices- ice cream and chocolate!
They seem to go down just fine, darn it.

SO I would really like a partner to talk to and go through this

Hi Taboo,

Honestly you should feel great.  You’ve lost 16 pounds in less than a month with no fill.  If you’re following the post-op instructions your weight will continue to come off.  I had my first fill almost right at 4 weeks post op, so if you think you think you need one let Dr. Fox know.  Truly, you are doing great!

Jen

Last week when I got my first fill, one of the ladies was telling me
breakfast is the hardest meal to get your protein in. She said try
cottage cheese and fruit (which I had been), but also said to get
Kashi, Go Lean, High Protein, High Fiber cereal and mix it with yogurt
instead of milk so it will stay in your pouch longer. I had it this
morning and couldn't eat half of it because it was so filling. I
bought some Total berry waffles and am hoping I can handle them, but
not sure.

Good luck!

Are you counting calories and exercising? Dr. Fox told me if you
eat "normal" foods, even in small amounts, you aren't going to lose.
I use a site called The Daily Plate to count my calories, carbs,
protein, etc. You just list the food you ate and it breaks it all
out for you. It even lets you go in and enter your weight and how
much weight you want to lose per week and it will tell you how many
calories you can eat a day to accomplish that weight loss.

I'm also taking a water aerobics class twice a week and walking a
mile on my treadmill on the days I don't swim. I really love the
aerobics class and wish it were more often.

It sure sounds like you need a fill. When was your last one? I'm
finding I get hungrier at night, but I am trying so hard to just eat
my sugar free popsicles and nothing else. Dr. Fox told me to expect
it to take 3 or 4 fills to find that "sweet spot". I just don't want
to gain weight trying to find it.

Next week is going to be tough for me. I'm traveling (pleasure over
the weekend and then business all of next week. I am going to do my
best and for the first time ever, am committed to using the treadmill
in the hotels!

I hope you can get motivated again and hopefully Dr. Fox can help
figure out what the problem is. Good luck!

I have lost 114 lb with only 2 fills. I am not wanting to get another
fill because Id rather depend on my diet to control my weight. Is
there a chance that the band could move up or down? I can eat more
than I used to, but I have not had a fill for the last 80 lb or so.
Thank you

Good morning all. I have some questions. I had the lap band in Oct of
2006. I got preg in Feb of 2007. Had baby in Oct of 2007. Had
gallbladder surgery in Dec of 2007. To date, Ive lost 104 lb. I totally
happy with this but I need to continue to improve. I am getting approx.
1000 calories a day and exercising aprox 20-30 min a day 6 days a week.
What is the optimum amount of calories? Are you supposed to get a
certain amount of caloried when you are working out? Any help would be
great.

How is everyone doing? Well I hope. We are wanting to get this online
support group up and moving. I am going to try to have topics to talk
about each week. I have set up a poll so that you can put in
suggestions as to what you might like to talk about or hear. I want to
make this a place where you can come and know either you will get
inspiration, support, or you can vent and not have anyone get angry,
etc. Sometimes it just helps to be able to write it down and get it
off of your chest. So take the poll and if you have a suggestion that
is not listed but would like to see please let me know. You can post
here or send me an email. We'll be talking!!!

Well, although everyone is different, I dont think 4oz is too much. I
eat more than 4 oz at a time and I have 2 fill with a total of 2 cc.
I eat chicken, lean pork and beef and fish. Sometimes I eat weight
watchers frozen dinners. If you need someone for support, I am here
for you. I am a walking, talking advertisement for the lap band and I
love helping people. Congrats on your 2l lb. Im so proud of you!!!

hello,
i have now started with soft foods. can someone help me in knowing
how much food i am suppose to be taking in?

Like for instance lunch:
1/4 cup or 1/2 cup of protien
1/4 cup or 1/2 cup of a veggie
1/4 cup of pasta or rice
??? how much salad???

The doctor has approved me to eat rice or pasta, and salad...but I am
totally confused as to what in the world my calculations should be. I
have also had folks tell me to only eat 3 meals per day or 6 small
meals...no snacking. I cannot phatom how in the world I would
calculate 6 small meals and the time frames.

I usually eat breakfast around 8am, lunch is 12noon and supper around
5:30.

I use the Iso-pure protein powder in the morning, and a multivitamin
daily. I am pushing my water...but sometimes hard when I am working
during the day.
HELP ME PLEASE??? Risha

Momoftca,

Congratulations on the 72 pounds; you are right, that is GREAT!  I’m sure you feel like a different person and can do so many things that you couldn’t do at your heaviest.  I know that is true for me.  It makes sense that you have hit a plateau and there are several things you can do.  I would be conscious of how much protein and water you are getting in every day.  If you’re getting the minimum of each then that is great.  You may need to up your exercise too.  I now work out 5 times a week for an hour each session.  I also change up my routine because our bodies get used to doing one thing and then won’t let go of the weight/fat until we challenge it up some.  I don’t focus on a specific diet, I just eat what I want and try to focus on protein first.  For most of my second year of banding I was consuming alcohol on a regular basis.  I know that is one reason my weight didn’t move down steadily during that time.  There is no doubt in my mind that I could be at my goal weight by now if I had done things differently this past year.  I recently decided to cut alcohol out completely for a while to help me start losing again.  One other thing I can share with you is a “Plateau busting diet” that was posted years ago.  It’s says it’s Dr. Fox’s diet and I printed it off and showed it to our Dr. Fox and he said it wasn’t his but he thought it was a great plan.  I’ve pasted it below.  I hope some of this helps and please don’t be hard on yourself or feel like you’re alone in this because we all hit plateaus at some point.  Take care.

I am sitting here reading all that is going on with everyones band
life. I had my band 5/06, and I have lost a total of 72 pounds. which
is great but I can not seem to drop below the 200 mark my weight is up
and down can anyone offer some support to why it might be doing this. I
workout 3 times a week I take a bicycling class twice a week. I really
try to take in my protein for the day. I dont know if I should be
focusing on a specific diet or just my portion control that of course
am forced by with my band or if there could really be something else
wrong. Please help any advise would be sooooo appreciated.

I never know if I am writing to the right person or not but I saw that
on this posting that you had your surgery in 6/06. have you hit a
plateau? where you are not losing any weight or either you go up and
down?

Hi Heidi,

I just passed my 2 year bandiversary; it was 6/30/05.  I lost about 65 pounds really quickly and the rest has been much slower and more difficult to get off.  I had to add in regular exercise at the gym and really watch my portion size.  I also was drinking lots of alcohol the last year or so and we all know that is just empty calories.  I have since stopped drinking and will do that for the foreseeable future.

I remember that in the beginning it was hard to get the protein shake down.  Now I use New Whey protein drinks that are premixed and give you 25 g. of protein in only 3 oz. of liquid.  I buy them online from www.bulknutrition.com to get a better price, but they can be purchased at The Vitamin Shoppe too.  I wish I would have known about them before surgery because I could barely get down the thick shake I made with milk/water and ice in the blender so I rarely got in all my protein those first several weeks post-op.  You might want to give them a try.  They also come in 42 g. of protein but I’ve been told by a nurse that our bodies can’t absorb more than 25 g. at a given time, so the 42 g. seems like a waste to me.

You sound like you have a great attitude and that will help you so much in this process.  Take care and I look forward to watching your progress.

Hi Rosy,

My srugery was actually on the 18th sorry for the confusion. I (knock
on wood) haven't had any pain in the shoulder. I have a bit in the
back between my shoulder blades, but using a heating pad works great.
Pretty much gone now. Now it is mostly just from having to lay in
certain positions on my recliner. The incisions are still sore of
course. I have this pressure in my chest which isn't horrible, but
annoying. It is gas, so every once in a while feel pressure build up
and then it kind of rolls away. I can get out little burps, but
nothing major. Getting better though. The more I move the better it
is.
I am so glad you are doing well. If you have any questions feel gree
to ask as I am a day ahead of you! Dr.Fox did call this morning to
check in on me and that was really nice! Good luck!
