My surgery was on 12/18/06 and my first fill was on 2/1/07. I went to the After Care Center in Richardson and it was awesome! When you go there, you first talk to an exercise physiologist who discusses what you are eating and workout regiment. I've been exercising 3 times a week since 12/27/06 and doing Yoga twice a week since the beginning of the year.
So far, I've lost 15 lbs since 12/18...however, Dr Fox put me on a 3 week liquid diet pre-op of which I lost 22 lbs. So far, I'm done 37 lbs and feeling great! My goal is to lose 100 lbs total by the end of 2007 and I think I get there. If you can make it to the AIGB Aftercare in Richardson for your fills, PLEASE GO! The Physician Asst there was great and the fill only hurt a little bit but before I knew it, it was over!
Hope this help and best of luck to everyone!

Hi guys! My surgery was on 7/11/06 and I still feel like I am doing so bad, like I am losing so slow. But I guess bottom line is Dr. Fox said I was on schedule and doing well, so I have to be happy with what I have lost so far. I have had a stall for awhile, but after 4 fills, I have found the "sweet spot" It is awesome. It takes so little to fill me up now so my calorie intake is way down. I need to check it to see, but I know from sheer quantity I am doing well. As well as the pounds I have lost this week after
being stalled and my 16's I just bought are getting looser.
Have patience and it will come...as long as you are not binging and eating all bad things, you will do okay. Just drink lots of water and try to exercise every day.

Not a medical professional here....just a die hard LapBand patient!!!
It's simple...the LapBand goes around the upper portion of the
stomach, which kinda makes your stomach into the shape of an hour
glass. So, your insides aren't all moved around as you get with the
Bypass. With the Bypass, there's cutting, stapling, and rerouting of
the intestines and of the bowel. That's why people who have the
Bypass can have what's called "dumping", which means the simple
sugars that you and I eat go through a Bypass person causing a quick
rush to the bathroom. Sometimes they can feel other symptoms
too...not too fun from what I here from my friend.
I hope this helps you out. Not only am I banded now but so is my
husband. I love the band and how easy it was to go from surgery on
Friday and back to work the next Tuesday. Don't get me wrong,
though. I was sore. I felt like I did about 1,000 sit ups but that
was all.
I wish you great success this year! You have a new you to get to
know. Keep us informed on how it all works out for you.
Sincerely,
EM

I can't tell you anything negative about the lap band surgery. I asked
the same question before my surgery as well and received this same
response. The only negative thing was that those who responded, and
now I, wish I would have had it sooner. There is a HUGE difference
between the lap band and gastric bypass. GB is a ratical surgery and
has a much longer recovery time while LB is a quick, easy surgery with
a very short recovery time. I could have returned to work within a
couple of days (had a desk job) and been fine. With GB, you will lose
a lot a weight and quickly! However, you will have a lot of excess
skin that you will eventually have to do something with. On the other
hand, with the LB surgery, your weight loss will come but is slower and
gives your body to "re-form" and the skin is more taut. I personally
was not sick after the surgery, but I did have a couple of hours of
nausea due to the anesthesia. For that you will receive a suppository
and you will be fine. Other than that, no problems at all.
Hope this helps you make up your mind. LB is certainly the way to go
and you don't have to take a hand full of pills every day for the
remainder of your life as you do with GB.
If you have any questions, please let us know. We all had, and still
have, questions.

Good morning everyone. A few more days until my surgery and the
excitement is building. I've been on the South Beach Diet since 12/1
and so far I've lost 8 lbs....not too bad. Took a little getting used
to, but I know my liver will shrink so Dr. F. will be happy. :)
It's funny though because I thought I would have a problem staying away
from carbonated beverages, ice cream, fried foods and all the other no
nos...but it hasn't been hard. Looking forward to next week and the
recovery period and a smaller me.

Wow...congrats on the date! That is so exciting. I did alot of
reading. I love to read. =) That and walking....sounds like a good
recovery plan to me.

Hi everyone. Hope that you all had a blessed Thanksgiving holiday.
After many painstaking months, my surgery has finally been scheduled.
I'll be banded in two weeks! I am indeed excited. I've decided to
adopt my surgery date as my rebirthdate! And since I have to pay my
insurance deductible, this will also be my Xmas gift to myself!
**smile**.
I've been looking forward to this all year and now that I have two

have the time off from work to recooperate and regenerate! In
preparation for the surgery occurring this year, I haven't taken ANY

Anyone have any ideas for things I can do while I recover? I'm
planning to do alot of walking during the day and just taking it easy
b/c I don't want to overdo it.
-I received my first fill also in Richardson. My surgery was 10-19.
My first fill was 11-20. It was a good experience. I was scared.
I still feel like I don't have many restrictions at all. Nothing
has gotten stuck. I do fill up faster. How are you feeling? I just
get a little discouraged. I guess that i think that it should just
come off faster and that is crazy. I just hope that I am doing it
all okay. Do you feel the same way? Or am i just the crazy one.
Good Luck

Good morning!
Well, I had my fourth fill yesterday and I left there feeling like I
was a loser. I do not know if the tech was having a bad day, but she
made me have a bad day as well. I had lost one pound since my last
fill, and when I told her that I had the same restriction as I had
since the beginning she started questioning me, and telling me what
I was doing wrong in a manner that made me feel bad. If I was able
to diet on my own, I would have been doing that instead of having
the surgery.
But on the up side, I feel a difference already. So I am hoping this
is THE spot ya know? I am really ready to get back on the losing
trend. I have a friend in my office that had her surgery last week
and we both live in Lewisville, so I am eagerly waiting her doctor
to release her for working out. I have a new work out buddy. How
cool is that?
Hope everyone gets through the bad weather okay!

I don't have any weekdays off in December and don't want to burn a sick day for it. Know what I mean??? Anywho! Glad you are doing so well. I have gotten back on my stationary bike this week. I can tell I have been lacked in my exercising....my muscles hurt! (that's what I get for slacking off) I am so very proud of you Johnna! You are doing a great job. Stay strong and sweet and like you say, HUGS AND DIET KISSES!!!

I would recommend taking smaller bites of food and putting your fork down in between bites. And CHEW CHEW CHEW!!!! I think that is the hardest part of learning new habits.
Not counting the day of surgery, cause I had no discomfort that day, getting past the 2 and 3 days were the hardest. But you can do it. We are all here to help you in anyway possible.
Thanks Debra! I am surely looking forward. My friend won't mind...at
least I don't think. When he had his done, he was actually up and
around after about a day or so and was back home within a couple of
days...so I'm looking forward to the same type of recovery time frame.
Does anyone have any advice on eating habits that I could start
practicing on before going for my pre-surgery consult with Dr. F.? I'm
open to suggestions??

Thanks for those words of encouragement. They will definitely come in handy as I go through this journey of a 'new me'. I actually live in the Fort Worth area, but after going to the seminar at the Surgery Center of Richardson, I definitely wanted Dr. Fox to do the surgery. My biggest headache has been getting the approval. So far, I can speak very highly of his staff. They seem to care a great deal for their patients and so far have been very helpful in answering questions and providing information.
This web group will definitely be an asset to me. Luckily, however, I have a good friend of mine who was banded in September '06 and I was there to pick him up and he stayed with me for the first few days post-op...so now he'll be returning the favor...which is great.
So I hope you all enjoy the 'male point of view' from time to time... :)

Dr. Fox and his staff are wonderful people and give you all the support you need. You also have an extended family here on the web site. I have gathered a lot of information from other people here. > > I began my walk on the banded side of life on May 15, 2006 by Dr. Fox. My highest weight was 310 last November and my May 1st I was at 304. Since then I have lost 57 lbs and a total of 26 inches. I have had no complications and I feel good, have more energy and I feel so much better about myself. I am hoping within the next couple of months to get off my high blood pressure medications as well as my antidepressants. I am working with my primary care doctor on this project. > > Good luck with your journey! You are in good hands with Dr. Fox and his staff. (You may want to keep your eyes on April.....she can be shifty!! hehehehehe) JUST KIDDING APRIL!!!!!!! Hey April cause me Ms. Trouble, so what can I say! Dr. Fox and April were in Tyler Friday and Saturday. Stay connected to the website support group in your area. (where do you live?) Having support from your friends, families as well as the website will make all the difference in the world. > > Keep in touch!
