Hello everyone! I'm new here. My name is Jessie, I'm a 27 y/o SAHM in San
Diego, CA. I just dreaded my hair for the first time last night and I really
like it so far. I wasn't going to use a wax or anything but decided to last
min. because some of the locks aren't holding too well no matter what I do to
them. I have a birthday party for one of my son's friends today and I wanted
them to look good. So, for a temporary fix it's good enough for me. It's just
a hair wax I had bought a long while ago when I was experimenting with different
styles.

I was wondering if anyone can give me some tips on tightening the locks better.
I've found some tips on the net but most of them require you to use some kind of
product. To be honest, I prefer not to use anything on my hair (I think I've
had the same can of hairspray for 5 years now) unless I'm going out somewhere
special or to a club or something. I do plan to use a salt water solution
(trying to find some sea salts...harder than you would think) to help and do
hand rolls and just fiddle with them a bit. But, any advice would be great.

I've heard of wrapping the hair in embroidery thread and I'm curious how to do
this. Also, how do you use a crochet hook or whatnot? I'm having trouble
finding these methods online (well, anything more than a mention).

Also, when can I wash it? I've heard everything from waiting 8 days to waiting
8 weeks. My hair is kind of thin, straight, and gets oily easily.

Any tips or advice you can give that I didn't ask about is also welcome. :D

*hugs*
Jessie

my hair about 2 times a week with a dreadlock shampoo from
dreadheadhq.com that a friend gave me. i am on the hunt for other
natural and chemical/additive free shampoos, and i have found that
this washing schedule seems to work pretty well for me. every so

leave them alone. i do not use any wax or dressings, as i was a
little worried they would cause buildup and greasiness and slow the
locking process. i had used dreadheadhq beeswax in my husbands
locks, and i really used too much.(he no longer has locks) my locks
don't feel too dry, but i am a bit concerned that perhaps i should
be using some oils or something to keep moisture in my locks to
prevent breaking, etc. I would like to use essential oils, would
this be okay? what do you sweet dreaded folks use, if anything, to
moisturize your locks? what sort of schedule, if any, do you use to
wash your locks, and if you do wash them, what kind of soap or
shampoo do you use? i think i need to make a trip to the health

Subject: Ohio Natural Hairstylist License Exam Prep Course is Running

The exam preparation course for Ohio natural hairstylists is up and
running. If you're covered under 4713.34 (Reciprocity) then it will
count as adequate exam preparation. If you're a native of Ohio you
still have to do your 450 hours, but I'm hoping that will change if I
manage to put out some stellar scoring stylists.

Those not from Ohio are free to take the course for vocational
orientation purposes, but you'll probably like the one at UniversalClass
better because it's 10 bucks cheaper and much more casual.

To take the Ohio course go to http://studyitonline.com/pns/ and sign up,
and then click on the course name at the top right, and request
enrollment. It's only $30 even though I've been busting my tail for 2
months on it.

It's got all the braiding techniques...cornrows, dreadlocks, box braids,
fishbone tracks, weaving, bonding, etc. Plus you can request patterns
and styles if you like.

Hi i don't know what type of hair you have but youcan start to dred your hair
when its about 4/5 inches long you don't want it right to the root it would be
too tight maybe thats why your extensions are falling out if your extensions are
falling off you can use cotton what ever colour your hair is i was told to use
little elastic bands but i wouldn't recomend it it can rip your dreads. if your
hair is thin where it joins extensions they havn't divided your dreads
equally, its just as important that its right even without extensions.
hope this can help ask any time i'll try to help!!

I recently got dread extensions. My intention was to get the
extensions to satisfy my impatience, and then cut them off and dread
my natural hair when my "roots" were long enough.

Problem is, my hair has grown in about 2 inches since then, and i
want to eventually have natural dreads. some dreads are hanging on
by very thin sections of hair. two have already fallen off.

my question is: what can i do to prevent more from falling off. and
when/how can i start dreading my natural roots?

thanks so much...
