My daugher went through the same thing. She did grow out of it. She has a night light and stand and a TV in her room. She is 17 almost 18 now.

Thank you Mike. I have asked her what it is she is afraid of, but unfortunately she can't verbalize it. I reassure her that she is safe but it doesn't seem to help too much. This is probably the hardest part for me when I can't understand her for something I know she really needs to say. I am actually in the process of getting a Tango by Blink-Twice to help with communication. I remember my son going through this but in his case he had night terrors. I surely hope that doesn't happen.
I appreciate your help. Miriam

She is afraid of something... Like most children that age, they go through bad dreams, sometimes these startle them. Most children can cope, she needs help. Sometimes when you wake up like that you fear of going back to sleep and waking up with the same fright night after night developes patterns. The flight is coming to you for comfort. That is how she is coping with this experience.

Hello everyone,
My name is Miriam I am married and have two kids. Matt who is 12 and Mariah who is 8. Mariah has down syndrome. We live in SC. I found this group today because I am looking for some support. We moved to SC a couple of years ago and the group here is not as active as the Central Florida group.
I have a question regarding sleep. Mariah has always been a great sleeper in the sense that after a VERY active day she would go to bed at 7p and wake up at 6a without any distruptions. A blessing I know! But suddenly in the last 2 weeks she has been getting up at 2-3 am every night and getting in our bed or me bringing her back to her bed. I don't understand it. At first I thought it was nightmares because she said she was scared but now she just seems to be getting up. I am going to start TNI again (took it when she was a baby in her bottle) then stopped because I couldn't get it in her. Now
she is able to take capsules (ADHD med). Does anyone think the nighttime vitamin would help this? I know the vitamins kept her healthier. Any input, advice or a hi would be appreciated.
