This group is for people who want to advocate for the rights of all disabled people, especially the most often written off - "severely" disabled people.
Too often, disability rights is viewed as being only for certain kinds of disabled people. People with labels such as persistent vegetative state, severe or profound mental retardation/developmental delays, low functioning autism or whatever other condition seem to be most often written off.
I decided to start this group after having a parent of a boy with Coffin-Lowry Syndrome say it's irresponsible not to do your best to prevent the birth of people like her son. Since she's in charge of deciding who gets into the largest CLS support group, I wondered what I'd do for support if I was a parent of a CLS boy who didn't view him as inferior to others. I decided to broaden the scope of this group because CLS is rare, whereas discriminatory attitudes towards people like that are not.
