Do not change your dose without talking to your doctor. Do not stop using this medication suddenly without talking to your doctor. You may need to gradually reduce the dose.

Tramadol is as effective as narcotics in relieving pain but does not depress respiration, a side effect of most narcotics. Tramadol is not a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug (NSAID), and does not have the increased risk of stomach ulceration and internal bleeding that can occur with the use of NSAIDs.

Withdrawal symptoms may occur when you stop using tramadol. Withdrawal symptoms include anxiety, sweating, nausea, diarrhea, tremors, chills, hallucinations, trouble sleeping, or breathing problems. Call your doctor at once if you have any of these withdrawal symptoms after you stop using tramadol.

Therefore if you are having surgery, including dental surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking tramadol.

Tramadol may be taken every 4-6 hours as needed. If you take too much tramadol, you may experience serious side effects.Ask your doctor about the maximum number of tablets that you may take for each dose or for a 24-hour period.

Tramadol is an effective pain reliever (analgesic). Its mode of action resembles that of narcotics, but it has significantly less potential for abuse and addiction than the narcotics.

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
