What is the role of the Public Information/ Public Affairs Officer? "To provide the RIGHT information, to the RIGHT people, at the RIGHT time, so that they can make the RIGHT decisions."

The purpose of this group is to provide a resource for those who are involved in emergency public information before, during, and after extra-ordinary events. Please use this group to ask questions, provide solutions, engage in meaningful dialogue (with a minimum of vitriol), meet your peers, and exchange innovations.

The DisasterPIO group is configured so that it will generate sufficient critical mass to maintain flow using the talent and experience of its members. This is a not a site for the media, but for those who work with the media (although it is recognized that crossover is constant).

This forum evolved from the interest of two graduating classes of the Emergency Management Institute’s Advanced Public Information Officer (APIO) courses and an APIO for Health and Hospitals class held at the Noble Training Institute to have a venue to interact with their peers. Graduation from one of the APIO courses is strongly encouraged. For information about that course, and other resources, see under "Links" in the menu bar.

When you request membership you will be sent an email query requesting that you provide a brief narrative detailing your experience, PIO-related education, and affiliation. Please take a moment to reply.
