Not really a meal log since I set myself up on Thursday to basically not

stay too close to it.



Breakfast - bagel w/lf strawberry cream cheese



Lunch - tuna salad



Snack - sunflower seeds



(left work at noon when we found that the company that does our credit card

charges had had a fire shortly before midnight & so orders couldn't go

through)



Dinner - 4 pieces of pizza & breadsticks



Snack - part of a truffle I was given as a thank you at about 11 pm, then 2

bottles of wine coolers after all 5 kids went home.



Now to explain how I set myself up - on Thursday, Rene got a call from her

sister-in-law offering her tickets for 2 to a dinner/chamber music event in

Maize, KS - near Wichita.  Rene turned her down since Stan was out of town &

she knew her son Michael wouldn't want to go.  Then she asked me if I would

want to go out to dinner & a concert - I said sure, thinking she was talking

about the 2 of us going.



Then the sister-in-law arrived & handed the tickets to me.  I waited until

she was out of ear shot & asked Rene if they were for the 2 of us or just

me - she said just me.  Well, I knew Friday was an evening shift for Don,

Eddie was going to be in Kansas City or he would have been at the gym

anyway.  The only 3 other options that I could think of were 1. to go by

myself - which I didn't want to do, 2. ask Jeff to babysit & ask Diane to go

with me or 3. offer to babysit for all 5 kids & let Diane & Jeff have a

date.  So I went with #3.



I got a late night text from Jeff saying Thank you & that he would need to

take me out for lunch some time - told him for them just to enjoy themselves

& come back to rescue me - 5 kids ages 4-11.



The plan was that Diane would go pick up Jeff's 2 daughters for their

weekend with them, then meet him here at our house.  He would come here from

work & shower.  About 10 minutes before Diane arrived, I got a couple texts

from Jeff - 1 asking if she was here yet with the kids & #2 saying that he

wanted to take advantage of the date night to ask her to marry him and

wanting to know if Don was home since he wanted our approval for it.  I told

him no, Don was actually pulling a 16 hour shift, but that I had already

told Diane that from what I saw of Jeff, I approved of him (may be that in

comparison to the others 4-5 or so that she has dated since she was a

teenager that he rises to the top better - I don't know!).



Diane arrived with all 5 kids, Jeff arrived & got cleaned up & dressed & we

headed them out the door.  I ordered $40 of pizza & popped in a movie - then

tried to stay awake.  Jeff's 2 girls went to sleep about 8-9, but Diane's

were still going strong when they got back.  Earlier, I had kind of hinted

that maybe something would happen while they were gone.  Taylor asked if I

meant Jeff would get Diane pg - told him no - that is no longer an option

anyway, really.  Amber guessed they would get engaged & Bailey (Jeff's 4

year old) commented that she didn't know her daddy had a girlfriend.  The

other 2 were silent.



I got a text during the concert that she had said yes (found out later she

kind of thought we put this together for this purpose, so had to dissuade

her of that idea!)  They said they would tell the kids when they got back.

So I had to keep quiet!  I did text back asking if I would be doing the

cake - got a text back of course, then another saying I could cater the

whole thing - told them no - just the cake was plenty.  Then got another

saying Jeff had lost his phone privileges, doing the cake was plenty since I

would deserve to enjoy myself (wow!  5 years might be making a difference

there in that idea!)



Then a bit after 11, they arrived back, I found out the ring was bought

yesterday - I assume on his lunch break - & so needs to be sized before she

can wear it.  The kids were told & all were excited.  Then I was given the

truffle - they said they bought 2, shared 1 & saved 1 for me as a thank

you - I shared with all 5 kids!  Told Jeff's girls that now it is official -

they call me grandma.



Then everyone headed out the door (after Diane said that they may see if the

place they had their date allows weddings to be held there - said it would

need to be small - maybe 30-40 people, but that it has a perfect outdoor

place - at least, I think from the description, it would be outdoors) & I

broke out a couple of wine coolers!



Today, I keep napping, tomorrow we have everyone here for a BBQ.
