When I was buying strips out of pocket, they cost
about 90¢ apiece. Three
hundred strips would have cost me $270. I don't think
I had to pay tax on them.
Ten sensors would be $350, if there were no tax
charged.

A substantial amount of money either way.

You can get strips for less than that . . . and you
can pay more than that.
It depends on the brand and the store.

Subject: Re: gastroparesis/glipizide foxysmom19

Hi Carol,

I only occasionally see my BG higher in the 3 and 4
hour - rarely - like last
night I experimented with homemade sauce (well, hunts
tomato sauce/paste mixed)
on a low carb flat bread, lots of cheese and pepperoni
- Total carbs should have
been less than 10 - it was very tasty . . . hardly any
rise after 1 to 2 hours
but around hour 3 to 4 it went up (only to 125) - a
bit of exercise brought it
down a lot. Maybe I should do more testing at the 3
and 4 hour mark to see but
we all know italian foods can rise much later . . . .
What causes
gastroparesis? Probably lots of things would slow
digestion I suppose including
medications.

Sandy K.
-------------------------
<<<I figured out I have gastroparesis when bgs went up
AFTER the two hour
pp test - I had to test out to the 4th hour to catch
the highest bg rise
pp. Also, in the first 30 minutes after eating my bg
will frequently go
down. This makes using a "fast-acting" insulin a waste
of time and
money for me - I do really well with Humulin R and
really am hoping it
stays in the drugstore fridge.

hi

I am still fairly new to the group and obviously
fairly new to Januvia,
but so far it seems to be keeping my bg in the normal
range. I am
taking it once a day and Metformin twice. Prviously I
was taking
amaryl and then at night 4-6 units of Lantus. My
most recent AIC was
5.7 and had been 6.1 in July.

I notice most people here seem to be using insulin for
tight control
and wondered if anyone else was trying Januvia at all
and what their
results so far have been

thanks

I signed up for that Kimkin's dealythingy too. I've
tried low-carb
alone and it just doesn't work for me. I have to do
low cal also in
order to lose weight. I did great for quite a while -
even have one
pair of slacks size 10, which I did wear, maybe twice.
Then I broke my
foot about two years ago (is this tale of woe sounding
familiar to
anyone?), and since then I've gained it all back - 50
pounds down, 50
pounds back up. On my own I've been able to stop the
gaining, but
actually losing it again all on my own just isn't
realistic. Thanks to
whomever posted the Kimdeal - maybe with a forum to
whine to it'll make
the plan easier.

Good morning,

I started Januvia about a week ago and have had good
results with
after meal numbers. I was taking Byetta, but switched
to Januvia to
get away from needles. It remains to be seen if I have
enough GLP-1
production, or am sensitive enough to my own, for
Januvia to work
long term.

I am trying to do tight control without using insulin.
I was taking
Lantus for fasting control, but quit the day I started
Januvia. It
just seemed like the right thing to do. Unfortunately,
my fasting
numbers are starting to creep up. If that continues, I
will be back
on Lantus before long.

That's where I think I'm at right now Alyne; I think
these unwanted
extra lbs are due to my liveral use of 35% cream, low
carb cheese-
cake and cream cheese, full-fat cheeses etc....

My cholesterol is just fine, my HBA1c is also, so I
thought
everything was OK !! Wrong! The lbs are creeping
back on, so I'm
going to switch to Soya milk and low fat cheeses and
get back on the
treadmill - honest - I will --- soon!!!

Of course.

To avoid confusion in the future, please assume that
everything I say is my own
opinion, and every experience I mention applies only
to me, and possibly only
to that one time.

If you were type one with blood glucose bouncing
continuously
throughout the day, you might understand why you have
to test so
often. I can get a test result of 100, and drive to
the store. When
I get through shopping 45 minutes later I can be 40.
I always test
before driving for that reason.

That's good George. I assume you keep glucose tablets
handy too. I do. I'm a
Type 2 but as I reported before, even > basal insulin
can cause a rapid low.

I was hoping to use a continuous meter for some simple
insulin dosing
experiments, but if the meter has to be calibrated
against finger pricks too
frequently, I might be better off just using test
strips. I plan on doing about
4
tests and each test will require about 14 strips. Of
course, with a good CGM I
could do a lot more testing. I'll keep monitoring
reports on CGMs.

Thank him for me. It gave me a chuckle. Punkin was

I think she was snickering too.

I was wondering if your insurance companies first
balked at supplying
Januvia, or just went ahead and gave it to you two.

Plus, of course, how much does it cost?
