I know losing weight Is great for diabetics, however, there are risks to any surgeries. I run a support group for people who have had flesh eating bacteria. 75% are diabetic and many got it after surgery. The whole idea of dieting is learning to change bad habits. I know many people who have had gastric bypass and gained the weight back because their habits did not change. At first they ate less (they couldn't' eat more as they would throw up). Eventully they went back to their bad eating habits. Remember even if you lose all the weight and eventually get off the insulin and pills, you are still diabetic and have the potential to to be.
