Change your diet to minimize sugars and starches. White bread, white rice, corn, pasta, winter squash, most root vegetables (especially beets and potatoes) no longer exist for you. Cookies, cake, pie, candy, and all sweets no longer exist for you. You may have small amounts of fruit, especially berries.
Exercise, exercise, exercise. I'd suggest buying a bicycle and riding it as much as you can. Whenever you run an errand, ask, "Can I do it by bicycle?" and if you can, do so.
Later you may be able to re-introduce moderate amounts of carbohydrates, but for now, minimize them. It is probably impossible to eschew them entirely, but minimize them.
Get a copy of DR. BERNSTEIN'S DIABETES SOLUTION and one of DIABETES FOR DUMMIES. They will answer many of your questions.
