Subject: Email to prevent MCS eviction in UK Gillian McCarthy
Dear MCS Friends,
As it concerns England, this may be considered off-topic, as it concerns England; however there have been similar incidents right here in Michigan.
About two years ago, a man in Jackson, MI was being threatened with eviction and possible jail time over painting the outside of his house.
An emergency appeal, which a member of MCS Friends sent out to MCS email lists all over the world, brought a world-wide response in less than 24 hours.
The city officials in Jackson changed their attitude instantly.  The Jackson resident with MCS was amazed to receive letters from Japan, Australia, etc.
I was equally amazed at both the response and the power of the internet to make a difference.
I believe it lends great credibility when intelligent emails are sent from all over the world.
So please consider taking a moment to help this woman and help educate the world about the toxicity of modern life.
Also, feel free to forward the message below to other people or email lists that may be interested to help.
Personally, I have a quibble with the statement that this person is the first in history to be afflicted with MCS.  I do not know how old she is, but we all know Theron Randolph identified the problem over 50 years ago in Chicago.  I think the concept this is a “rare” disease is not only inaccurate, but opens her up skepticism that she is just one eccentric kook.
Here’s a great news report on Gillian McCarthy with a gallant MCS sufferer named Gordon McHenry presenting himself nicely.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KF8eWp39eLw
My email will comment on the prevalence of MCS.
This appeal has the same urgent timing of the Jackson, MI incident.  I believe the response can be even greater.
Enjoy this experience!

Dear All,
Re: Gillian McCarthy
The fight goes on!  Somerset District Council are determined to evict Gillian from land that they put her on 11 years ago.  Her MCS is so extreme (along with physical disabilities) that even if they found somewhere safe to re-house her, the move is likely to prove fatal.
Gillian has applied for temporary planning permission to keep her hut where it is.  Ideally local people need to write in support of this application, but given the determined attitude of the council, this is unlikely.  Gillian therefore requests that anyone no matter where they live, should write in support as soon as possible.
Emails and letters need to be there by midnight  7th February 2008. (Today - sorry!)
My letter is below.  Feel free to copy as much or as little as you like.  Your help would be hugely appreciated.
Ref planning application 08/00077/FUL
Letters can be sent to:         Customer Services (Planning)
                                    SSDC
                                    Council Offices
                                    Brympton Way
                                    Yeovil
                                    Somerset.  BA20 2HT.
If you want to email me a copy of your letter of support, I'll pass it onto Gillian.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Nicki
N.B. The Safe As Houses Garden contains over 90 species of rare, edible plants likely to be  suitable for food sensitivity.  Information is due to be published in Gillian's book: "Gardening for MCS", which will be lost if eviction occurs.

Dear Madam,
Ref. Planning application 08/00077/FUL
I am writing in support of the application for temporary retention of the dwelling known as The Stop Gap, Knowle Bridge Road, Shepton Montague, BA9 8JA.  This is to retain the temporary structure on the site, on the grounds that this is the most appropriate site it has been possible to find for it's severely ill occupant, Gillian McCarthy.
After many years of searching by professionals, doctors, family and friends, the site was originally selected and agreed in 1996 by representatives of South Somerset District Council, Somerset County Council and their medical advisor.
Both councils are therefore aware how dangerous it would be to try to move Ms Mccarthy given her current state of health.
Everyone who has visited the site agrees the site is not readily visible, is not near other dwellings, and imposes no discernable inconvenience on the locality – being over a mile away from the nearest line of sight building.
Given that the landowner is happy for the dwelling to remain where it is, the District and County Councils have already agreed this was the most suitable site for the dwelling, and that attempting to move Ms McCarthy is likely to prove fatal and would at the very least cause immense suffering, I fail to see why this application should not be approved.  Incidentally your website lists Ms McCarthy as not having paid sufficient fees.  In fact the fee was paid at the end of October and we have since discovered that because she is disabled and on full benefits, she was eligible for exemption of fees anyway.
Gillian McCarthy suffers from very limiting physical disabilities and has one of the world's worst known cases of extreme allergies and sensitivities to a variety of synthetic and natural chemicals, materials and electromagnetic fields.
Living in this relatively safe location, Gillian has been able to provide important research on this condition for other sufferers like myself.  Moving her from this site would result in the catastrophic loss of the Safe As Houses Trial Garden which is already archived at national level thanks to the invaluable research produced for this illness.
As a fellow sufferer of chemical and food sensitivity, I know how difficult it is to find safe accommodation.  Given that Ms McCarthy has managed to survive on this site for the past 11 years, along with the points outlined above, I see no logical reason why this application should not be granted.
I should be grateful if you would keep me informed of this case.
Yours faithfully,
Ms N Greenham.
