Hello, I live in Portland, Oregon and have become quite sensitive to
mold. This is a new development as of the last year, I had lived in
an apartment with a very rotten bathroom caused by overhead leaking
water. I've moved on from that apartment, but every place I've lived
has been too moldy for me to tolerate.

Because I've moved a number of times, and for a time was not working
much of the time and had several job dismissals due to the lethargy
from being ill all the time, it's been difficult getting approval to
move into a decent apartment. I've tried living with housemates, but
wasn't able to persuade them to keep the bathroom dry by running the
exhaust fan whenever bathing/showering, which I thought we had agreed
upon before I moved in.

Has anyone on this list ever been in a situation like this? I seem to
always be moving from one crisis to another, never quite able to get
the appropriate housing that would enable me to live productively.
Now I'm so sensitive, I won't be able to live w/ pets or anyplace
where there is carpet or upholstered furniture. I feel like I should
be living with other people who have mold/dust allergies, but haven't
had any luck trying to network my way to "clean" housing.

Any advice/housing tips for my area would be MUCH appreciated.

- Brian

Brian, We are probably all in the same boat as you. You might have to move to a dry climate, such as in Arizona. Although that may not be a possibility for...

Brian, I would think Portland would be one of the hardest places to survive for someone sensitized to mold. I agree with Donald. There are many desert...

Don't let desert communities fool you. Arizona, for example, may be the desert, but they have many dried mold spores there and several have reported that...
