I was directed to this website from another group I am in. We were
just shocked and amazed. There is a group in the Yahoo groups that is
for Deaf Wannabees. The homepage states that being deaf is a fetish
and implies that some members deliberately impair their hearing to
become deaf.

Am I not seeing the whole picture? Did I miss something the last 30
years while living with a hearing impairment? Was this supposed to be
a totally enjoyable experience? I didn't realize it was something
that was craved by others.

I just am at a loss to understand this. Does anyone have any idea
what the attraction to being deaf is and why anyone would deliberately
become deaf?
