I like her comment that you and your "friends" talked
among themselves and essentially "faked" activity on
the iVillage board.
Rememebr when we first started this alternate boar?
Suddenly the CLs decided to try to save the deaf board
over there on iVillage. Until we from here decided to
go back over there and join the conversation, ALL of
the activity on that board consisted of CLs talking
among themselves.
I ahev so much trouble using iVillage, and I am so
busy, that I often just give up when I can't locate
the board or when it won't let me log on. That is the
biggest issue, I think. The iVillage baord is just not
convenient to use.
I am getting high-speed internet on Aug. 14, which I
am sure will make it easier to use iVillage, but there
are still other issues. They save the convenience for
paying subscribers.
Just having to see only one message at a time is part
of what bugs me about that site. You have to click
through every single one to get to ones you want to
read--or even to see if you want to read them. Most
boards allow you to get a sense of what a message will
be before you click on it, and most boards let you see
several per page. But iVillage throws obstacles in
your path at every turn.
I wonder why we all decided to go back over there
after all rather than posting here. I think it was
mainly sentiment. We have had that board since
January of 2001. I know I have an attachment to it
just because it is the first online deaf community I
ever belonged to, and also because I knew Laura from
Themestream, a writers' site that we both used to
write articles for.
But what was once a very lively board was essentially
killed when they redesigned the site to add all those
bells and whistles. It became much harder to use, and
hard to locate what you wanted to find. It also
loaded more slowly, and many of us had tech problems
we had neevr had ebfore--including difficulty with
signing on.
I have seen several other message boards die because
of problems created by foolish redesigns that are
attractive to look at but not at all user-friendly.
The current iVillage design is prettier than the one
they had at first, but I absolutely hate it. ---Tina
