ACNP Travel Awardee Applications Now Available Online for 2009

The American College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ACNP) annually selects over 40 distinguished young scientists in the field of neuropsychopharmacology to be a part of our Travel Award program. These coveted awards allow recipients numerous benefits and exposure to the College and its members. This past year, we had an outstanding program to offer young scientists in the field at the 2008 Annual Meeting. For 2009, there are five types of ACNP Travel Awards offered:

      1. Early Career Development Travel Award: Aimed at recruiting scientists who have received Early Career Development K or R Awards from the NIMH, NIAAA, NIDA and NINDS. This award targets young scientists who have, through their research, teaching, or clinical activities, demonstrated professional and scientific interest in the field of neuropsychopharmacology.
      2. Faculty Research Fellowship: Supported by a grant from Eli Lilly and Company, this fellowship is designed to enhance the quality of teaching and research at accredited medical schools and/or universities with a significant enrollment of underrepresented minority students in fields related to neuropsychopharmacology; and/or to assist minority faculty members in fields related to neuropsychopharmacology to increase their research skills, develop active and successful research programs in their home institutions, and to provide increased opportunities for minority scientists to enter research careers in Neuropsychopharmacology.
      3. Travel Award for Minorities: Sanofi-Aventis Pharmaceuticals Inc. has provided a grant to encourage the development of young scientists from minority populations.
      4. Young Investigator Memorial Fellowship: Created to support the attendance of young investigators at the ACNP Annual Meeting and to commemorate the life and work of deceased College members who made significant contributions to the field of neuropsychopharmacology.
      5. ACNP Research Award for Women: Supported by a grant from Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, the ACNP Research Award for Women is designed to enhance the quality of teaching and research among women in fields related to neuropsychopharmacology.

Please see detailed information regarding each award at http://www.acnp.org/annualmeeting/travelawards.aspx. If you know of anyone within your institution who might be interested in applying for this program, please forward them this information. As many past Travel Awardees who are now ACNP members will attest to, this award and meeting can serve as a crucial turning point in the career of a young scientist. The deadline to apply is April 30th. Should you have questions, please contact Nicole Greer at the ACNP office: ngreer@.... Thank you.
