The APA is currently soliciting nominations for a resident alternate-delegate to the AMA Resident and Fellow Section (or AMA-RFS).  The APA sends two resident representative to the AMA-RFS - a delegate and an alternate-delegate. You have to be both an APA and AMA member, be in residency/fellowship training at least until Dec. 31, 2010. The appointment is effective January 1, 2009 and ends December 31, 2010.
As an alternate-delegate, you are:
  • Required to attend two AMA meetings a year. The AMA RFS meets in June in Chicago and December at various cities around the country. The APA will pay for your travel expenses.
  • A representative from the entire APA and most especially of your fellow residents. At the RFS meeting, you can submit resolutions that are in accordance to APA's mission statement especially as we advocate for the profession and our patients.
  • Encouraged to submit articles to Psychiatric News or reports to your fellow residents on the outcomes of the AMA/RFS meetings especially those of interest to your colleagues.

  • Nomination letter from your training director. The training director also need to specify that he/she will give you educational time off to fulfill your AMA duties, if selected. 
  • CV
  • A statement from you describing your leadership experience and interest in this position. Please keep it to one page.
